Proactive replacement on 160k hs250h
What kinds of parts should be proactively replaced on a 160k mile hs250h to make it suitable for long road trips? Fuel pump? Inverters? Timing chain, etc? Etc? I did flush brakes and engine coolant. Mechanic said the hybrid coolant looked clean enough 👌 at 160k. Hmmm.....
I hope he cleaned and lubricated the brake caliper slide pins as they are often ignored because the brake pads can last 100,000 miles!
Change the engine air filter and cabin air filter.
If the spark plugs are original I would change them. They do last about 100,000 miles. They are very easy to change on this engine.
I would change the hybrid inverter coolant as it always looks clean. Lexus says change it at 150,000 miles.
I would also clean out the hybrid battery cooling ducts and fan. It is not hard to do, but the rear seat has to be removed. I will try to hunt down the thread that discusses it.
Put a bottle of Techron Fuel System Cleaner the 20 ounce size in your gas tank once a year.
I hope he checked out the accessory drive belt as it may need replacement if original and inspected the radiator hoses when he changed the coolant.
You should never need to replace the timing chain on this engine or any engine during its lifetime, other stuff will fail first on a Toyota/Lexus. I would not touch the fuel pump unless it stops working. These are never items you replace preemptively. FYI there was a fuel pump recall on these and it may have been replaced.
You do not want to have to replace the inverter as it is very very expensive. It is another one of those things you never touch until it breaks. Changing inverter coolant and keeping the hybrid battery cooling fans and ducts dust free helps it last longer.

Absolutely great advice but I might go even more pedestrian than that. long road trip?
- New wiper blades
- fill up the washer fluid appropriate for the region
- check the tire DOT numbers and budget for new tires if they are 5+ years old. Replace them before the trip if they are 7+ years old or the treads are low. Use a tread depth gauge.
- Change the oil!
