Default How often do your see an hs250h?

I'm being completely honest here.... and while doing 18,500 rideshare rides in the Chicago area, in the past 6.5 years, I have seen 😳 the Lexus hs250h less than 10 times. There are months that go by where I don't see one at all... I did not know my car (2012) was this rare. Younger car enthusiasts flip out and ask me "what the hell kinda car is that?!" The first time I saw an hs250h, I was the same way. I don't think I could drive another "common car" again after owning this hs250. I was at Weathertech getting mats, and they didn't even make one for the hs. Other customers there were curiously studying my car ("wtf is this thing?) 😑 I bought this black 2012 hs in new jersey back in August '24 with 127k miles for $9850, and drives and looks new. I knew it was rare, but had no idea it was THIS rare.

In the past 5 years, how many times have you seen another HS where you live?

The last time I saw one here in San Diego, was at least 10 years ago.

The rarer this car is, the better. I live in Los Angeles, and I have to admit, I do see it around from time to time. But I still love driving it through the city—people can't help but stare, probably wondering, "What the heck is that?" I started modifying my HS to make it stand out a little more, and I've been getting some great compliments here and there. The only challenge with this car is that there aren't many modification options available, at least here in the States. In other parts of the world, though, they have a 2014 HS model that is absolutely stunning and jaw-dropping.

Jesseskillz,
Whenever you can, please upload a picture of your modified hs250h; I'd love to see it. My 2012 is a stock black , but would like to maybe put red plastic lense stickers on the tail lights to make it look more modern (to make it look less 2010-ish)
Time for an oil change again. Maybe.... I think i will change the oil every 3k, and filter every 9k. What do you think of that filter idea? 🤔

Hey, that's the exact same car I've got, same color! I feel that my front end sits too high and the back too low. What Do you recommend to lower the front and higher the back?

Default Blackening the front grill

What did you use to blacken your front grill? Vinyl wrap?

Just change both oil and filter at 5,000 miles. All modern oil, especially synthetic is good for a lot more than 3,000 miles. There is no benefit to changing it that often.

Default 3k vs 5k oil changes

Starting at 128,000 miles, my hs burned 5/8 qt of oil between 5k oil changes, and since it came to burn this much with the previous owner doing 5k synthetic changes, I am hoping to keep it burning at the same rate, but not worse, as the mileage increases over the years, by planning 3k oil changes + 9k filter changes (the filter change is the most messy part for me doing it at home, and the purolator one filter says it's good till 15k) -- is this preventive reason for my bastardized 3k changes absurd, do you think? 🤔 I feel that doing it like this might stave off any increased oil burning down the line, since 5k changes made it burn 5/8 qt per change currently.... 🤔 maybe it's not how it works<?>

Where I live, there aren't many of this model, but I still often see another similar car in the city... (more than once every six months).
We even have a separate group/forum for this model
And yes, since this model for the USA was not produced for very long, and accordingly not such a large number of them were produced, the car attracts glances and passers-by show interest...

Tumbles: I disagree with your logic. Your plan will not change the rate of oil burning increase, if it increases at all. You are wasting perfectly good oil by changing it way before it has stopped protecting your engine.

Being an old guy, from the days when a car burning a quart of oil every thousand miles was normal, this rate of oil use is not worth worrying about. That is very minimal oil use no matter what vehicle and considering it is a hybrid with all the starts and stops that cause more engine wear, shows how well the engine is holding up. Although I don't know how many miles are on it. You are burning a little more than a pint of oil in 5,000 miles! That is a tight engine!

I would not want to leave the oil filter in there that long. You are not burning much oil. You are already running 5w30 when the car calls for 5w20. That should reduce oil use and make the motor quieter.
Visit the bobistheoilguy forums where they get very technical about oil, maintenance etc. Maybe join and post your question there. https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/

Coilovers are definitely an option; you just need to find the ones that are compatible with the HS. As for the grille, I didn’t use vinyl wrap—I used spray paint. The key is to sand down the grille first so the paint adheres properly and doesn’t fade over time. That said, I’m considering buying the black grille I’ve seen available at a few places. By the way, what do you guys mean about burning oil? Do these cars have that issue? I haven’t experienced it so far
