Right now, I have 2 vehicles for duties required. Truck for towing my car to the race track and car (not the track car) for daily driving. Considering trying to downsize and blend the two duties into one vehicle (yes i know, jack of all trades, master of none). I thought this would be impossible but in comes the GX550. Test drove a luxury model yesterday (I would be getting the Premium +) and of course it was very comfortable and very easy to drive and maneuver but hard to determine how it would tow. I have no doubt that the GX550 has plenty of torque and power but my concern is the rear sway and stability while towing at highway speeds. I pull a 20ft enclosed aluminum trailer, total weight is just under 6,000 lbs plus a few hundred in the bed (trunk) for track tools etc. I usually measured my tongue weight to 800-900 lbs so I think with the 1500 payload the tongue weight should be fine.
For the record I have a weight distribution hitch with sway control bar on the F-150.
Before pulling the trigger, I wanted to try to get some feedback from others that tow with the GX and even better how it compares towing to what I have now or similar: 2023 Ford F-150 Ecoboost
I've been using a 2016 GX to tow my race car in a 16 foot enclosed trailer since 2019. 8000-9000 miles in total. I don't have load leveling, which would be really nice. The 2nd gen that I have isn't going to tow a 4000 pound trailer at 75MPH, but it does work. The biggest issue is the 8MPH fuel economy. On premium gas it's expensive. Thank you for the reply. This gives me some hope. I am hoping the gen 3 will be semi comfortable towing highway speeds with 2000 lbs more than what you were towing with the gen2.
I had considered adding rear air bags to help with leveling as well as swapping out the tires for E rated tires to try and help rear stability. I am towing on average 2000 miles a year so its not the end of the world if it isnt perfect.
I am sorry I am terrible with the classics. Austin Sprite? Either way car looks like a blast!
I have the 24 OT+ specifically to tow a trail building trailer (4k#s) and an expedition trailer which is about 3.5K fully loaded. Took the Expedition Trailer down to Pisgah from New England, about 1500 miles round trip.
The GX tows better than my gladiator rubicon, much better. Great manners and the wheel base makes for a very stable TV.
Just wanted to follow up on this thread. I ended up pulling the trigger on a 24 overtrail + and am very happy with it. Finished 3 trips towing 6-7k lbs behind me with 20ft enclosed trailer and it towed as good if not better than my f150. That said, I upgraded the tires to Load E and run a weight distribution hitch with sway control bar as well as spent more time dialing the trailer weight. Took it from NH to NY and back with zero issues and did a few trips up to the mountains in NH and it didnt skip a beat.
The only downside has been the fuel tank. Best towing range i was able to get was 190 miles on a tank (all highway and based on GPS). Im hoping for an aux extended range fuel tank soon. Anyone towing cars to the track fear not, the GX will do it fine.

Yes, 23x9 is 207. I've had a few 230 mile tanks, but they were downhill out of the mountains or with a strong tail wind or both. My experience though, is that the range goes to 0 when there is 3.5 gallons of gas left in the tank, so if you're stopping when it says 20 or 30 miles of range, you're leaving 50+ in the tank at fill-up. For longer trips I put a five gallon can of premium in the trailer...it turns out there is a 170ish mile section of I-90 through North Dakota with no gas stations.

FK Offroad has an extended range fuel tank available now.
