GX460 - Tire Size Comparison Thread
#106
I went with BFG AT KO2 in 275/65/R18 and surprisingly - zero rub! I bought the hardware and zip ties to do the bolt and fender mods, but I have zero rub even at full lock. Anyone else have this experience? I will say for all of you looking at this tire size - the pictures do not do it justice at all. The tires are much bigger in real life and make it look semi-lifted.

I looked at doing spacers - probably the 4 Runner spacer since there doesn't seem to be any equivalent for the GX unless I just haven't googled enough. I also read that they compromise the ride. What have you seen from others who have installed them?

I’ve not read up on that but would just do the 1” on the front and 3/4” on the rear if I do it again. Just use the spacers that go on top of the springs. That is not a really fun install but not terrible to do.

Where is the "notorious bolt" and how to get the "fat head bolt" ? Could you post some pictures? Thank you much!

Read the very first thread. It shows the links for what to do. One of them is the "zip tie and mud flap mod thread", and in that one, someone shows exactly what to do, where the bolt is and other similar and popular alterations. Another post within that thread even includes a purchase list from Home Depot to complete it, which I just completed. It was explained perfectly. Once you get the parts and get down on the ground to look at it, it will make sense.
Warning, you will need patience and some tools to get it done (needle nose pliers, 10mm wrench, philips screwdriver, and most importantly, skinny fingers). It’s deceptively more difficult than it may appear, particularly getting a nut threaded onto the flat head bolt.

Looks good, surprised they aren't rubbing. For my rig (2015), that size rubbed when at full lock and this was even after a suspension lift. Some wheel well liner massage took care of it though.

note that the BFGs run slightly smaller than other brands in that tire size, so that would help prevent rub here I imagine

I stuffed the biggest tire size I could fit on my stock spare wheel; 265/65/18, into the spare wheel well. It's 1/2" smaller than the tires on my truck (275/65/18), but I'm not too concerned at that small a size difference.

285/70/17 Nitto Ridge Grapplers on Summit Offroad Sierra wheels (17x9 with -25 offset), stock suspension without rubbing but did require side step removal/trim, front bumper trim, front fender liner moved forward (trimmed and tucked under and fastened to existing bolt hole where front corner bumper brace was previously) and I did body mount chop using the Metaltech kit.

Updated the first page adding a bunch of folks who posted up images and specs of their rigs.
One note, if your rig is posted on page 1 and you have a better photo of it, or if my information listed for your rig is incorrect (or if I dont have the year of your rig) please private message me.
Thanks,
