Retrofitted (manual) power folding side mirrors - success!
All you need is the new switch, actuator motors, new mirror frames, and connector wires. You could just buy the switch and the whole mirror assembly with everything already there but it’s not cheap. I took a chance and bought the individual parts off eBay... connected them up and everything works! Total cost was $280. Pics of the parts below.
I know I don’t really need this and my money can be better spent on other mods... but I have a base model 2014 GX and there are some convenience things that I miss from my previous car (2011 BMW X5).
Question for folks that have this feature; is it by design that the fold and unfold buttons don’t work when the car is completely off? You have to switch the car on to accessory or above to work? I guess eventually I’ll look into those aftermarket modules to have auto folding mirrors anyways. But next up is park assist!

Thanks! I am learning a lot from folks like you and tecman and hzhao etc on this forum. I already did the speaker upgrade posted by tecman. I used JBL Club series speakers throughout and they sound great compared to stock. I plan to tackle the aftermarket 360 panoramic cameras install posted hzhao next.

doesnt work when off, but do you need it to?
on original equipped the switch left in a certain position, i think left or right, then its automatic when the gx is shut off

Hmm I’m gonna have to play with all the button combinations then cause mine currently doesn’t auto fold or open. I can even fold and open while driving which I assume shouldn’t happen on original equip cars.

Auto fold requires the OBD module and you can fold/unfold any time vehicle power is on parked or driving.

oh i forgot about that module. oops!
yeah they can fold in when driving to get extra aerodynamic

I have 2 damaged mirrors. How hard is it to swap the folding into the non folding? Is there a writeup somewhere on this?
I'm looking at ordering these and swapping the parts from my damaged ones

Not a writeup to retrofit but here are instructions on replacing broken mirrors.

Thanks @Acrad
I have the manuals from the other sticky'd mirror thread but I'm just wondering what the best way to get my motor + wiring into these new cheaper assemblies would be.
Wife hit a tree backing up on RH this week, and the LH side is cracked in the housing just behind the mirror glass so the outer cover doesn't stay flush. Might as well knock em both out if I can get the parts for around $600.
Also need to confirm the motors will fit in the other parts I listed without modifying. Do the metal brackets with the motor just bolt in to the non folding assembly?
From this video it looks like a huge PITA

I'm not sure. Hopefully OP can chime in. I've never had mine open at that level beyond pulling the mirror off.

Retrofit OEM Power Folding and Auto Dimming Side View Mirrors
Hello All,
I wanted to let you all know that I have completed another upgrade to my base model 2011 GX.
My side view mirrors were manual folding and did not have auto dimming. It was optional to have this on the 2011 model year. I bought the folding/dimming mirrors and replaced the switch to the left of the steering wheel.
I can report that this is a plug and play upgrade. The mirrors are able to communicate with my rear view mirror to auto dim correctly and the button on the new switch will fold the mirrors correctly.
I’ll post pictures and part numbers but they vary year to year so you’ll have to get the ones for your year.

Sorry Acrad. I didn’t see this thread before. For a cost comparison I bought the mirrors new from oemvehicleparts for 950 with shipping. I bought the switch used on ebay for 30 dollars. I plan on selling my old mirrors for a few hundred dollars so all in should be a ~650 dollar upgrade using my method.
