Lightbulb GX 460 Tow Package - Brake Control

Just purchased a 2017 Lexus GX 460. Will I need to install an aftermarket trailer brake controller? If not how does the GX control the electric current to the trailer brakes? Can I adjust this from internal controls within the GX? WIll any information show up on the dash??
Everyone at the dealership is lost in space about this.

Default 2017 GX 460 Brake Controller

Sir,

Thank you so much. Bottom line is I need to install aftermarket brake controller. Wish the dealership knew this.

Check out Tundras.com as many said the P3 works great (http://www.tekonsha.com/products/bra...RB55TR19SXShj4)

Bear in mind I have a used '12 but the unused trailer brake jumper harness for connecting aftermarket brake controller to the harness under dash was in back. I'd make sure your dealer threw that in. It looks like this.

Default 2017 Lexus GX 460 - Brake controller

Today I purchased the Tekonsha P3 with a wire harness. Actually Lexus did include a harness in the glove box so I might have wasted 10 bucks on the harness but I understand the P3 controller does a good job. Etrailer indicated that is what they recommend for Lexus.
Will soon have an appointment with Ballews in Tacoma to install.

Great. The P3 works better than the Tundra OEM Brake controller

Thinking of adding the Tekonsha P3 as well.

If you are looking for the harness connector under the dash for the trailer brake connector it is to the left of the parking brake. In this pic it is the white connector in the upper left corner of picture. It may be hiding behind that harness. I had to rotate it to get it in the picture.

This is great info, I was wondering what that random harness in my glovebox was!

Here is the harness connection diagram if yours didn't come with it.

Default towing brake controller

Is any one trailer break controller better for the 2017 GX? Does one mount better under the dash? Also, does anyone tow a middle size travel trailer and feels the rig is adequate to do so..

What weight and length trailer are you thinking? Depending on construction a similar sized trailer can weigh quite a bit different.

think i can drag a 12ft dual axle UHAUL trailer from Brooklyn , NY to KCK with about 1000lbs in personal stuff ? i bet the gas mileage is going to suck . my main concern is getting over the mountains and onto flat roads .
oh: 2017 Premium non tow package

Do you know how much the trailer weighs? It should handle that fine though.

I put it over in Sport mode and keep in 4th on the tall grades.
