I followed the advice of skrypj

Installed the entire kit from Redarc (Liberty controller, 4Runner wiring harness and switch plate) on my GX470.

Pretty slick setup. Haven't tested it with trailer attached yet, but looks like it works so far, very clean install.

Hardest part was modding lower dash for switch plate (for the variable braking switch).

I didn't have any empty switch plates so I had to cut a hole in the lower dash trim to mount the Redarc switch plate.

Default Brake controller for a 2021 GX 460

Having a terrible time getting a brake controller for my 2021 460 GX. I will be hauling a lightweight aluminum horse trailer and only one horse- so under 5000 pounds.
I wrongly assumed Lexus would do it, and no one wants to touch it as Lexus is not prewired for one.
Recommendations on which one to buy?
Would there be any issues with the warranty should I find someone to do it?

@SamLexRXGX
Probably too late for this, but I installed the REDARC the other day. - installation went well - Had the same results and was very unsure that it worked properly, since I didn't have a trailer to test it with. LED tester won't work..
I then found this and it gave me piece of mind that I had done it right!

and downloaded the PDF

A 15Watt incandescent bulb did the trick

Thanks I had already used that technique by connecting a bulb after installation. Now I had a good 3400 miles road trip with trailer. Its an awesome product.

I installed the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite brake controller, great unit, they have the direct plug in wiring harness and all the is visible is a small dial, no bulky control module sitting on the front of the dash. https://redarcelectronics.com/produc...ake-controller

Ian,
We are also in Calgary and have a 19' Escape and will be getting our GX460 in April. Hopefully the tow hitch will be available by then.
Where did you purchase the Redarc controller? Did you install it yourself, or did you get someone to install it for you?
Can you post a picture of the mounting?

Also in Canada.

I just ordered it direct from Redarc USA.

Just order it with the adapter and it's the easiest install ever. Basically you hide the module above the fuse panel, plug the white connector into the one by the brake pedal, pop out a switch blank and pop in the one included with the kit with the control ****. That's it. 10 minute job max.

I originally order this for my Defender which I sold, then bought a 4Runner. Used the included trailer wiring harness that the 4R came with and wired up the universal connector included in the Redarc kit, could have just as easily ordered a Toyota one but figured I'd give it a go. Worked great.

Ended up trading the 4Runner in on the GX so kept the Redarc and wiring harness. Toyed with selling the Redarc but honestly think I will keep it and throw it on the GX. Such an easy install plus probably the best controller out there. Just have to buy a hitch. Not planning on towing but for the cost better safe than sorry...

Greetings… so, I’ve purchased the Redarc Tow Pro with the wiring adapter, but my GX doesn’t have any ‘blanks’ available on the lower dash panel. Anyone else run into this, and if so where did you end installing the control ****?

No blanks…

You can use this area for reference if you want to install in nearby area.

(My fully pre-wired Harrop rear e-locker... someday actual install in the rear diff) :-)

I have the Redarc brake controller and the same issue, not blank switches. I mounted mine in the space to the right beside the gas door switch, Used the Redarc switch bezel and it looks great, easy to access and I don't bump it getting in & out of the seat.

Acrad, IanG... thanks for the nudge. Last year, I switched out the radio in my '14 Runner, which gave me the confidence to proceed. Took it slow, it all comes apart pretty easy. Pic's to keep it interesting...

Lets take a picture to remember where every thing goes...

Oh my!! Too late to turn back now...

All tucked up and secure into the panel...

Mounting the control **** on the backside of the panel...

The morning after. Just have to drive it get it initialized, then hook it up to the trailer...
