Lightbulb GX-460 Door #Actuator Failure

I have a 2011 GX-460 with about 120k miles. In the past 60k miles, I have replaced 7 (yes seven) door actuators in the vehicle:
- 3 driver door
- 1 front passenger door
- 2 driver side rear door
- 1 back hatch door

After the 3rd actuator failed, I asked Lexus to look into this to find out the root cause of all of these failures with no luck.

On 4, 5, 6, I again asked but got back that there is over a mile of wiring in the vehicle and it's impossible to determine why.

On number 7, the dealer asked that I call Lexus to see what they can do (these are about $650 each to replace and $750 for rear hatch). Lexus said to go see another dealer...

So here I am, out over $4K replacing door actuators and no closer to finding an answer. Anyone else out there with similar issues? I'm at the point of wanting to get rid of it (although I love driving it).

Wow, 7 is crazy. I think I have read of one here. I have a 2011 with 86k and no problems.

Does the door actuators make any type of noise or show any similar symptom with the other doors before they failed?

Are the door actuators completely inoperative?

Are you using the remote or key to lock/ unlock the doors?

What's the frequency of locking/ unlocking the doors?

If you do some analysis on the replaced actuators, it seems the GX had been neck deep on the driver side/submerged to one side under water/flooding which caused the electro-mechanical parts to go bad that often.

Like this one (LOL):

So you think water damage could be the problem? Seems logical as this is quite unusual.
From one of my previous post.

i have had the exact same issue with my 2010 gx 460. The dealership is baffled. Even the "redesigned" replacements are failing. I will be selling the car if it keeps happening.

The GX uses the same lock actuator as the 4Runner. I have a 2013 GX and a 2012 4Runner. I haven't had to replace any actuators on the GX, and I've replaced 3 on the 4Runner. It's a simple repair. You can either replace the entire actuator unit, or just replace the motor (I've gone this route). The motors are about $5 on ebay. If you google either Tacoma or 4Runner lock actuator replacement, you'll find the info you're looking for.

It seems like my drivers side door lock actuator has failed. It locks sporadically and won't unlock unless I open it from the inside. My car is a 2012 with 70k miles. I am surprised that it has failed and expect more from Lexus... My indy is charging $510 for a new actuator/install.

Do you mean manual unlock from inside? If via the power door lock switch it might be something other than actuator.

PN: 69040-42250

Here is a new one on eBay for $175.50.

When I try to open the door if it is locked, the remote/pulling on the door handle does not unlock it. I have to open the passenger side door and reach over to the door handle and pull it open. i can manually lock/unlock from inside. The door lock switch seems to work fine. Regardless my indy is honest so not worried about that. Just hate having to fix an issue on my car that is otherwise perfectly maintained.

So the interior driver's door power lock and unlock switches will lock & unlock door?

I have this exact issue on my 2013 GX 460. The latest chapter is we were ready to take a road trip and the cargo door would not open. So we had to load the GX from the rear passenger doors. Of course when we arrived at our destination, it opened again.

Now when you place the vehicle in drive, and you start to accelerate, you can here clicking from the driver's side door and I know that means it will be time to replace another actuator soon.

I have owned a 2010 GS 350, and this 2013 GX 460 and every actuator has been replaced, or will be replaced, and I would not buy another Lexus. I am a car guy, talk to a lot of people about cars, and because of this actuator issue, I am telling everyone I know not to buy a Lexus.

I'd be looking into the cheap $5 fix listed earlier in thread. So far no issues with mine. Are you original owner?
