I think that may need to come out with the entire AVS shock assembly. The shock actuator appears to be attached to it.

Default Front AVS actuator removal help?

Hi there. I have a 2" level to install. I think I've figured out how to get the front struts out...but in a test run (yes I did a half install on one side to see what tools might be needed) I cannot for the lift of me get the AVS actuator off. The service manual states it needs a 4mm hex...(and a special service tool that is essentially a very slim mini sachet) but even with the tools I can't even get the hex bit in there....

has anyone found a solution?

Thanks in advance...

Similar challenge in post below but no update either.

I have mostly seen extraction of actuator for aftermarket shocks so preservation of actuator wasn’t high on list.

Is this even too big to get in there?

I saw a YouTube video where someone drilled a hole in the engine bay....that "seems" a bit extreme....but maybe it isnt?

I'm going to try to get the strut to drop (perhaps undo the lca) at the ball joint to help the strut drop down a little which from what I can see should give me more room to access those two little bolts.

What kind of clearance restrictions are you dealing with for hex nut?

Is this still too big with a 4mm hex bit? Is there no room to turn it as well? Or even a opened ended 1/4 ratchet with bit sitting in 1/4 socket area freely. Sounds like things might need a good soaking and sit of PB blaster before removal attempts as well if some are rounding them off.

••• Would a shortened bit in a tool like this work?

I actually have the last tool...it still hard to get to it....but after re-reading the instructions and giving it some thought, i think i'm going to try to lower the strut a little and get a better look...

I also considered making up some sort of lower strut extension (GM vehicles have level kits like this). SO the bolt that keeps the lower strut mount in is 1" higher/up off the LCA... we'll see.
