AVS ... an overpriced option that provides no discernable difference between Comfort and Sport ... but does provide massive brake drive, all in the interest of "comfort" ... where software intervention is required to avert a disaster in an emergency maneuver. Nice option for those who don't know the difference.

I never looked closely at this video when I first saw it years back but upon closer inspection this appears to be a base model without AVS that CU tested. Lack of headlight washers and upward chrome trim on rear window are key external indicators.
The Motor Trend tester back in 2010 was also a base

Obviously things like PCS and Radar Cruise weren't options on the 470 but I will see if I can find any technical data on it's system.
Not sure whether firmness of shocks or KDSS but on Sport anyway I can take a corner faster than a vehicle it's size should with little feel that I am going to roll over. I need to drive a non-AVS model someday for comparison. I've heard others compare the middle normal mode as the closest to a stock non-AVS 460.
I still haven't found a 470 Sport owner w/KDSS who can compare the driving experience to a AVS equipped 460 as that would be an interesting comparison of very closely matched vehicles on the suspension front.

In TWO other tests by CR where driver kept on throttle, the GX did good (even before recall).
The 4runner with the much SOFTER suspension passed CR testing fine...because its software did not have the bug. So, firmer suspension would not have made a difference.
This is something that some naysayers have not fully grasped, which is not surprising.

I did some testing this morning with AVS and some interesting observations
There is a 16 step range the actuators travel in for this implementation.
Very dynamic changes happening all the time depending on road conditions, grade, speed, etc.
Comfort Mode: Cruising along fronts are placed on 1 and rears are placed 2. This can change with conditions though but this setting seems to stay closest to 1 and 2.
Normal Mode: Cruising along fronts are placed on 4 and rears are placed on 5. This can change with conditions but this one seems to have the widest range of settings use. I saw it go up near sport settings and even lower toward comfort.
Sport Mode: Front and Rear goes to 10 all around. I saw it jump up to 12...maybe 13 on some rougher roads at speed but high end 16 must be reserved for hard braking conditions. Driving around Sport is actually not the hardest setting the system is capable of....so around 30% from firmest setting. This one effectively stays at 9 or higher.
Going up modest grade I noticed in Sport Mode it did raise the rear to 11.
The system actually is very dynamic and actuators are working all the time regardless of the setting you choose.
I forgot to test if changes are made with CDL or 4L activation. Or if any changes are made when RAHC settings are modified at low speed. I'll look next time I test.

I'm impressed...someone actually collecting data instead of just complaining and making statements with NO data...well done. Of course it would better to test the variables factorially as I suspect interactions are present.

Definitely want to collect more data here. OBD Link lets you collect data of sensors over a mapped interface.
You can also export the data to local device, Dropbox or iCloud in future in a CSV file that also includes latitude and longitude. I imagine Google Drive support will also be included at some point.

A few more Normal mode observations this morning
I logged a 10 mile drive to some on spirited side-roads and some highway travel. I did see occurrences where it could place the actuator at 1 and 16 into a tight sharp corner at speed. I also observed at over 60 MPH on flat fairly smooth highway it locked the fronts into 4 and put the rears on 8.
I will test other modes to see what absolute range of travel is over time.

NORMAL = basically can range from COMFORT to SPORT depending on driving conditions. It is truly ADAPTIVE.
COMFORT = lock it within soft parameters for the individual shocks.
SPORT = lock it within firm parameters for the the individual shocks.

So far that is what my limited data is pointing to. I still need to do a long drive solely in Comfort or Sport to confirm the full range though.
