check the driver side rear wheel well. there is a plastic section with clips that can flap if they get loose. I just stuck some padding in there and the noise vanished.
I don't think that can be completely turned off. There are these Techstream settings. I can't remember offhand if same sensor for headlights is used for the dash gauges.
Yes, crossbars. I removed them....no difference. I was really hoping that was the source, but it was not, so I put them back on. There was a thread on here from years ago re same wind/outside noise issue. Guy was shocked by the wind noise, as am I. In response to his post, others commented their GX was "tomb quiet." Makes no sense, especially given the Consumer Reports comments.
For dash lights, I sat in the car with service tech at dealership while he had his equipment attached to my GX & confirmed settings (#25 & #26 above) were set to least sensitivity ("very dark"). He DID say dash & headlights were tied together. I have manipulated ALL of the settings I can as an owner, with no satisfaction. Rolling down an interstate & quickly pass under an overpass & the dash lighting changes seems bizarre to me.
A while back on another vehicle I was looking for info on isolating wind noise. To rule out around windows they suggested using some black electrical tape.
Just a temporary test.... but fully tape off the entire door and window frames and see if noise goes away. I found an area on window frame of that vehicle that was letting some noise in but wasn't visually apparent.
The GX is much, much quieter than any other vehicle we have ever owned.
That being said, it is a car so NVH isn't zero. We've owned our 2017 GX for about 1.5 years and during our ownership, I've ironed out a few NVH issues, linked in my ownership log, linked below.
In high cross wind situations I still can hear a slight wind noise by my left ear. I haven't nailed it down yet but may try @Acrad suggestion of taping the entire driver door with some painters tape and going for a drive... It really doesn't bother me that much because it is sporadic and not always there like what you're describing.Plus I'm partially deaf in that ear from active duty so meh... my wife isn't complaining about it so that determines my motivation to try and remedy it, I can live with it because it so slight.
We experienced a fairly substantial wind noise after having our windshield replaced (took a nice rock on a roadtrip last year) because the shop did not use all new clips and new side stripping. I went back 2 times before they got it right...
I was amazed how much wind noise is generated by not having the side trims pieces tight against the windshield.
Check your windshield side trim pieces, there should be no give in them and very snug.
I know the new Tacoma's have a TSB complaint for wind noise, Toyota concluded it was the door weather stripping.
Worse case, since you have a 2017 and it is still under warranty, you could make a warranty claim and see if they can diagnose and repair it. Dealers are pretty bored right now and likely willing to go for a test drive in your vehicle to see if they can replicate it.
Looking to see if others are experiencing or have experienced severe road wind with their GX and how have you solved it. I recently drove from LA to Las Vegas and noticed that my 2020 GX Premium would easily be taken by the winds driving at 50-70mph. Pushing the car a little more 75-85mph felt a little better but i felt it still required alot of steering input to keep the GX from dancing around in its lane. I noticed other SUV's passing me with no issues at all with steering corrections going through the same winds mainly newer tahoes and cadillac's.
I was wondering if this issue is due to the crappy oem tires or the size of the 18" wheels being narrow and tall. I recently owned a 2017 RX350 F-sport with 20's and michellins and did not feel the car was easily overtaken by the winds. Looking into wider wheels and better tires but just wondering if that would help with what i am experiecing or i am stuck.
When I bought my 2020 GX Luxury w/SP (19" wheels). Bought it in Vegas and went home to Seattle. I took HWY 95/93?. So didn't take any I5 at all. This road has a lot of semis going through and I didn't have any problem with the wind on the GX. I also have an iKamper RTT, so the center of gravity is a little higher.
One time I noticed my car dancing while on the freeway, going about 80+ mph. I noticed I had my suspension settings on softest settings (comfort?). Once I switched it back to normal, I didn't have any more issue. I'm not sure if the premium have selectable ride settings. If it does, you might want to check it if you're in the soft ride settings.
Try comfort or sport avs settings and running your tires at 34psi cold. Never had an issue with this setup and stock wheels and tires (stock Michelin latitude tour hp on 2017 still)
our trucks are tall and narrow in design and our tires are even skinnier or so it looks. especially looking at it from the rear.
if it were very wind maybe you suffer alittle noise or wondering..
I personally feel that only over bridges on a very windy day
Hello! I have a 2018 GX that I purchased used with 40k miles on it. I've noticed that there is a howling wind noise coming from both the drivers side and passenger side windows (possibly the side mirrors, not sure) that only occurs some of the time. I've been chasing my tail trying to find what is causing it and was wondering if anyone else has experience this and found the cause. It's only at highway speeds and again, only happens some of the time. I can't find anything that looks "wrong" with the vehicle that would cause this. It's a weird one. Thanks for any help on this!
Mine does this too, especially in cross winds. Sometimes it almost seems like it "breaks" the seal on the door for a second. I asked my Lexus techs to check all the body panels/gaps and they've found nothing wrong. I think it's just a byproduct of having a tall, large SUV with the aerodynamics of a brick going down the highway sometimes.

You're not lying about the aerodynamics. Was hoping there is some kind of fix for it. Might just have to deal with it...
I only experienced it only in strong cross wind. When I have all the stuffs on the roof, there are all kind of noises lol
Haha, funny you mention that. I have a roof rack on my Tacoma and it's pretty loud. Told my wife she needs to ride in my truck more to know what real wind noise is.
