I have a soft storage container in the trunk when going on trips. I just throw in my small bag with the Viair P88 pump, patch kit, some pliers and screw drivers and a few different wrenches and sockets. I also carry a Lithium jumpstart kit instead of cable that can jump a few cars in one charge (I also have cable for really long trip but that's mostly with the Odyssey). Then I have another bag with tow strap, D-rings etc...when I'm heading to snow or potentially offroad. Everything is in a couple of bags I got from Harbor Freight.
I still need to find a way to mount the MaxTrax on the roof.
Another idea I got off of GXOR was some inexpensive automobile clothes hanger poles that can attach to the second and 3rd row grab handles. Great place to put up light things that can be supported here like fishing poles or something else you can think up. You also have some room in the jack compartment.
I have small stuff in the rear door, but I have a small tool box that I ratchet strap down in the rear. Why ratchet it down? During an accident anything not strapped down can become a projectile. Think of all the loose stuff you may have in your vehicles and just how it slides during a sudden stop. Now imagine an abrupt unplanned stop like an accident? I encourage all of you to strap down those loose items
