Default Fuel Fill Problem

Good Afternoon,

I purchased a 2012 GX 460 a week ago and I am having trouble when filling it up with gas. I purchased it with what was clearly 87 Octane as opposed to Premium I siphoned about 15 gallons out to be used in my mower and went to fill with premium. When filling, it would only fill at about 15% of the gas pump speed without tripping the shutoff on the pump. It took nearly 5 minutes to get 20 gallons of 93 in it. I am concerned that I may have damaged an internal anti-spill valve or something and it is restricting the flow through the filler neck. Does anybody know the anatomy of the filler neck and if there is something that could have been bent or damaged with a 1/2 OD plastic hose? I know that there was at least one spring loaded valve that I could feel before it got to the fuel tank but the was no real resistance coming in or out. Thank you for your help luckily I won't be needing to stick a hose in it again.

Have you tried a different station to check? It also could be something is blocking the EVAP canister too. Someone may know where it is to check.

Btw, you can run 87 octane fine, for a tank or two.

Thanks, I tried this morning after only about 40 miles and it appeared to do the same thing, however it was still quite full from my previous fill-up. I will run it down about a quarter of a tank or so before I try again. I also VERY gently put a 1/4" diamater semi-rigid hose back down to that first spring valve and everything feels free. I may use this as an excuse to buy a bore-scope and see if I can view anything.

Regarding the 87, I know it could probably handle it has knock sensors if necessary but I was going to pull my 3,500lb ski boat with it last weekend and wanted to have the premium in it. I know it was overkill but I had only owned it for a few hours and wanted to be kind to it.

Thanks again!

I would say something "off-color" about your syphon hose for the sake of humor, but I won't. LOL

Ha, yes indeed, "phrasing".

I think there is a one-way check valve in gas tank that pushes fuel vapors into the evap system. I've heard of them not working and causing problems like this. I'll see if anything shows up in FSM. Depending on mileage something like this might be covered by the Federal Emission Warranty.
