Default Carplay

I have a 2023 GX460 Luxury model. The only way I’ve found to access Carplay is by plugging in my iPhone to car and then the icon will pop up by my apps button. How can I fix it to automatically connect to phone and icon automatically come up without plugging in phone?

There are Carplay wireless adapters available on Amazon and elsewhere to make this work, and I have used one for my wife's RC.

Our GX's have wired Carplay, so, as mentioned, you have to get a wireless adapter.
I'm using a Carlinkit 5.0 and so far so good.
My friend uses the adapter from Quad Lock in his Civic, and it's been working well for him.

I have a 2022 and was looking around about wireless car play a couple months ago. The google machine says mine might have it, but doesn't.... yours might though. Try while sitting in the GX running, assuming you have an iPhone, go to settings, general, car play. It tells you to blue tooth connect to the GX, then hold the voice control button for a few seconds and it should connect. Hope it works for you.

GX's did not have wireless ACP/AA until the new generation came out in 2024. The aftermarket adapters work fine.

/\This. I'm an Android guy, so the adapters are different, but the Motorola one I have works fine.

For those of you that have the wireless adapters, does the music from your phone come on right when you start the car? I have one i got off of amazon and every time i start the car, its starts blasting music regardless if i had the radio turned on or not. Very annoying. Wondering if i just need a different brand or thats just the way those things work. thx

I have a Carlinkit 5.0 adapter. It takes a few seconds to connect. You will see a "connecting" screen until the connection is made.
Which one do you have? From what I understand, some lag/latency is expected with these adapters.

And no offense to the OP, but it kinda annoys me when people BUY a car first, then ask about features. Should be the opposite to avoid any buyers remorse/getting played by sales.

Good job making an assumption. You have zero context to the OP's situation.

I previously had a '22 RCF and bought a '23 GX460. For the RCF, I had the same wired CarPlay. I bought an Ottocast U2Air Pro wired to wireless adapter from Amazon, but couldn't get it to work (it would drop out after about 1 min, and would not connect to the devices wifi to allow updating the firmware...returned it to Amazon). I then bought the a USB A dongle adapter (
Amazon Amazon
). I can plug both into the two USB A ports in front of the shifter and still close the door that covers the USB ports. The drawback to using the wireless CarPlay adapter is you can only connect to one WiFi source at a time, you can't use wireless CarPlay and connect to the car's AT&T WiFi hot spot at the same time. You can if you are using wired CarPlay.
