Please Explain ...
Don't know why ... but in WA State ... an ever increasing number of people have this need to back-in to a parking place ... that typically takes 3-4 times longer to complete versus just pulling-in nose first ... while everyone is forced to wait for this to happen.
Why is this necessary ?

Just about every one in Asia does that too, especially in China, with many really shouldn’t have the licenses, not only they make others to wait, but also make the parking areas so inefficient because of the poor position awareness. When I was traveling there, had many times that made me got off my car and offered to park their cars for them just to save some times for all.
Back in first, or back out to leave, what's the diff in wait time? Generally I back in to avoid the inevitable close shave when someone speeds by when I'm trying to back out and then honks their horn at the indignity of cutting me off!
Reversing in a parking lot has been proven to be safer at many workspaces when a big number of people leaves the parking lot at the same time, better visibility when leaving.
Also as mention above, you either back in or back out.
I always reverse in, even in own driveway, benefit it that trunk is closer to garage so off loading a slightly easier.
I've teach my oldest who has a drivers permit the same.

Requiring drivers to back into a parking space is a safety requirement for many company owned vehicles. We were strongly encouraged to do the same with our personal vehicles - especially if that vehicle was a truck or SUV. Pull through was also encouraged (to avoid backing in) - where that was an option.
There is a difference ... backing in takes time for setup and alignment ... backing out only requires that one does not hit any surrounding objects ... but totally agree on the speeding by thing ... impossible to anticipate when focused on stationary objects.

I do it because I like doing it and because I have a knarly hitch that prevents love taps from other people who pull too far forward. In my situation I take literally zero extra time reverse parking. Partly because the turn radius in the GX460 is phenomenal.

When you encounter this other driver, patience is requested either at the front end of the transaction (another party backing in to park) or back end (other party backs out to vacate a parking spot.)
Maybe it is easier to muster patience on the back-end (other party backing out of a spot) because you anticipate claiming the vacated parking spot for yourself!
Greed for the Parking Spot >> Request for Patience

Understand that in Spokane there are way many more real "trucks" ...
Backing in only takes longer for those with little experience with larger vehicles. IMHO
Having driven larger commercial trucks in my younger years with no rear view visibility (due to a bucket boom) and the company requirement of having to back into a space for safety requirements, I can back into a spot with any vehicle just as quickly as pulling in IF given the room to do so.
You be surprised how many folks don't do that!
Now that I have a GX with its swing out tail gate, I do have to remember to pull in to spots when I know I have to load things in the back.
(and yes it still feels strange to me)

Copy that. I didn’t know you already moved on from your issue with “reverse parking” to having strong feelings about people buying SUVs and “real” trucks.
These days where everyone has to own an "SUV" ... even given the majority are essentially 1-inch lifted sedans with fake plastic "armor plate" rocker panel covers ... it seems everyone now thinks they own a "Big-Rig" ...
