Default auto wipers malfunction

Last night driving home, we got in the car and it was dry out. Perhaps there was a little moisture in the air due to fog. Well, the wipers decided to have a mind of their own and go on intermittently. So, I figured I'd turn it, "off", from, "auto". Well, it kept happening for a good 5 minutes till the car was warmed up. Can anyone tell me if this is a malfunction or something I missed?

I'm not too crazy about the automatic rain sensor deal either. The manual says you can take into Lexus and they can deprogram it. Think I will do that next time I go in. I'd rather just turn it off and on myself, and you are right, even if you take it off of of auto it still comes on, or at least mine does. Love the truck, tho!

yeah - streaked my windshield too. I'll be talking to them about it during my checkup. What mileage is that supposed to be anyway? 500 and 5000? I don't remember.

the 1st 1000 miles they check the car over to see all is good and then at 5000 they service it for you, free of charge at least here they do

Default Wipers/oil change

Here, too! That's when I'm planning to have that rain sensor disconnected. I don't like it streaking my windshield either, especially when it isn't really necessary for it to even come on.

I had to use my wipers for the first time this morning, and was a bit confused by the controls at first as I couldn't turn the wipers on. After finally getting them on, I thought the controls were a little confusing and thought that /might/ be the cause of some people's problems who can't get the wipers out of 'auto' mode.

The controls for the front wipers consist of two different controls...the stalk itself and a **** on the stalk. I was turning the little **** on the stalk to what I thought at the time was 'auto' and the wipers didn't come on even though it was raining. Come to learn that the text on the stalk 'off, auto, lo, high' refers to the stalk position while the little **** refers to '-' and '+' (speed). I had the stalk in the top 'off' position. Perhaps those stuck in 'auto' aren't moving the stalk to 'off' just turning the ****? When mine is in the top 'off' setting, the auto wipers definately never come on by themselves...

Anyway, don't flame, just a thought.

Tony

Hey, you're right. My lack of manual reading just proved your point. I had it set to interrmittent still and not to off. I didn't realize the wipers would flip up/down like the turn signals too. Whoops!

Default Wipers

Thanks Tony, I will investigate and give it a try. That would be great just to turn it off...

It's not that I don't think they are a great idea, I just don't like them coming on when it isn't necessary because they smear the windsheild and that makes it look dirty. Don't like them scraping across the windshield when ice is on it either. Wish they weren't so dang sensitive, even when they are turned as low as you can turn the sensitivity they still come on when it isn't necessary, or at least mine do.

odd mine never do that.. the ones in the bens are weiord.. you have to set the wiper setting to what they call "1" which is intermittent.. and then it uses the rain sensor... i like the auto function becuase it hasnt come on for me.. but yea the benz ones turns on every time you turn on the car.. which sucks becuase like you said messes up the windsheild
