Default Driveshaft splines and U joints grease

I did a few searches and can't find the info again but I recall reading somewhere that the Driveshaft splines (yoke?) and the four U joints on the shaft need different types of grease to keep them happy.

Anyone have the info on that?

Also I remember reading to not pump too much grease into the splines/yoke or you will put a tremendous amount of pressure on your transfer case and potentially crack it over time since the grease will act as a hydraulic press. Is it 5 or so pumps?

Use moly on the slides about 5-7 pumps if regularly serviced. If it’s been neglected you may have to pump a lot more. Use lithium such as Red & Tacky on the spiders until you hear cracking and new grease begin to ooze out.

Ok then, I am going to go to the store today and pick up a tube of Valvoline Synthetic NLGI#2 with Moly and a tube of Lucas Red and Tacky. I already have two grease guns so just have to swap out the old cartridges (3+ years old), crawl under the car and start pushing grease....

Go figure, been using royal purple synthetic grease on splines and spiders for 18 years , two different GX’s, never had a driveline issue…

Ok, all done. 6 zerks exercised and put moly in the splines (10 pumps each) and red & tacky into the spiders (till they oozed out of the seals). It had been several years since I lubed them but everything looked good still.

Are there any other zerk lube points in the suspension which need some love?

No other zerk fittings unless you have aftermarket suspension parts such as end links.
