Default This is a strange one

On my way to work I started getting a rumble strip vibration feeling from the rear end. I car pool , so we took the other ride in.

When I got back to my 08 GX470 , I could not repeat the vibration on a 15 mile run. Tires are fresh and balanced.

What could cause a strong vibration and just stop the next time driven? Thinking some thing in powertrain is about to fail. Any thoughts?

Did this happen as you were traveling straight and at a constant speed? Because if it happened as you came to a stop, or if you were accelerating, you have the driveshaft clunk.

I have lubed the driveshaft before. So this is different. It came on suddenly around 40 mph worse at 50 , less at 30. Not engine related , seeing as no codes kicked. Noise and vibration seamed to come behind me. I took it to a garage I have a almost a 20 year friendship with. Our kids grew up together.. Their gonna give it a good once over. I am worried something needed lubrication and got hot without seizing up. Crossed fingers their. U joints just dont get better. I will just have to see if they find anything. It was cold that morning.

I will post if they find anything . I have no drips under it ,

What problems would a soft airbag lead to?

Brake caliper sticking? A bag wouldn’t cause rumble strip feeling. has the driveshaft been lubricated at all the points? It’s easy to miss one I know I have

A bad air spring would have it riding on the bump stops, and that would be a rough ride.
If you haven't replaced the air springs yet, you're probably due.

If you have a warm garage, park it in there, spritz some soapy water on them, then cycle through the high-normal-low positions to see if there are any deep cracks in the rubber, looking for bubbles.

It’s a reach, but on a super cold morning, you may have had a piece of ice, on a critical surface that threw something out of balance. Ice melts, problem disappears.

That's what I'm hoping . Something frozen and let loose

I might as well have the Transfer case serviced while it's there.

No tow hitch on it, 150,000 now. I see people saying to use the 75/90 syn gear oil for the differentials and Transfer case. Opinions?

The problem never repeated itself over the last month. Had my garage friends look it over for a good once over anyway. All is well and fluids are still good in the driveline.

Now if I could just keep that new gas cap tight enough to seal and not kick codes every other fill up!
