Is there a current thread with muffler comparisons? I am looking to replace muffler and not sure if smart to remove the resonators too?

 

Resonators are like tuned helmholtz items. Remove them and it will likely get louder.
But, what types of muffler are you looking at; Magnaflow, Walker Quiet-Flow, Borla, DynoMax, Flowmaster, OEM, other ??

 

That's a nice list of muffler manufactures. I think the question is what's the difference between all those?

For a measly 260hp on a GX boat, a Quiet-Flow would be my choice. I like my GX to be as quiet as possible inside, which means quiet muffler and sound deadening mat inside where possible (the floors are a good place for it). I am also thinking about switching to 16" rims with a slightly taller tire when my existing tires wear out. A little more cush in tire, etc.

There are several other places that have better comparison sound clips which I have seen. I am sure you can find them with a search. Many will be for 4 runners which is a 6 to an 8.

 

Recently installed this one, very happy with it. This is the third one. I painted it. The second one was a cheap one and lasted only 4 years.

I replaced my 4Runner muffler with a Bosal brand (Rock Auto) should have bought the Bosal fittings right away, aggravated my mechanic.
