Default Blinker Relay Replacement

I went to LED's blinkers up front and get the occasional hyper blink.

I want to buy a replacement relay to hack around with.

Anyone have make/model of an aftermarket item that is used to replace OEM #81980-35020

Peep this, I just did this mod. Hope it helps. I can try to answer any questions if you have any. The description in the video has the parts I bought.

What mod is that? Does it need LED's everywhere? I only have front LED's

Did you check out the description of the video? If not I’ll paste it here. Essentially what you’re doing is buying a 4Runner connector harness, moving pin 10 to pin 12 and installing a Smart Tap relay. This not only fixes hyperflash from installing front or rear LEDs turn indicator bulbs but adds a tap indicate feature as shown in the video. As well as adds a couple of hazard flash patterns.

It doesn’t matter where the LEDs were installed front or rear or both, if you hyperflash this will fix it.

After installing some Alla 2800 lumen LEDs in the turn indicator sockets front and back I had to fix the hyperflash. Bought the 4Runner wiring harness part #82241-35010 then move pin 10 to pin 11 and install the Smart Tap. Links to these are all below. 4Runner wiring harness ~$15: https://parts.olathetoyota.com/oem-pa... Smart Tap $60: https://www.diodedynamics.com/smartta... Front Turn Indicator Bulbs (1156/1156A) ~$18 per pair: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07H6Y8TMG/... Rear Turn Indicator Bulbs (7440) ~$18 per pair: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07H6TDYZR?... Rear Brake Light Bulbs (7440, you need four bulbs total) ~$18 per pair: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07H6TDWWB?...

I did click on vid and the saw links, did not show in the inline vid here.

Other threads are indicating that the "LED" blinker modules might fry if you still have the old ~2A bulbs in, hence why I asked if LED's needs to be everywhere.

I got all the parts but wanted some clarification on the instructions - "moving pin 10 to pin 12". Not sure how to do this or what that means? Let me know

Never mind - I got it figured out. I ended up going with
OXILAM 1156 CANBUS LED OXILAM 1156 CANBUS LED
flashers for the front and
OXILAM 7440 CANBUS LED's OXILAM 7440 CANBUS LED's
for the rear. No rapid flash, No Flash relay hacking, No resistors! Other assortment of LED's for rear brakes, front side marker etc. I did not touch the flasher relay so these CANBUS bulbs did the trick by themselves.

Glad that worked out for you. I was about to go over the pin swap.

Make sure you turn off your DRLs or you'll melt your front headlight housing. More than one person has already done this and undone it for that exact reason

Yes, I was told from my light supplier to do the same when I did my upgrades.

its actually not too difficult to be honest, took maybe an hour and a half).

Check out this link:

Also, if you’re looking to update the rest of your lights to LED:

@MrTorque - Dont you hate it when a plan totally fails? (Or partially fails). I got all the CANBUS LED Bulb's in and everything was working great. Went for a test drive and all was good. No hyperflash. Then, I get hyperflash just on the Right Side. Not sure why but Left side all works fine but right does not. I guess I now do need that explanation on 10 to 12 pin swap!

Bummer!!! I installed what was supposed to be CANBUS LEDs originally but they didn’t work...hoped you’d have better luck.

Anyway. Here’s a reference pic. I’ve circled the pin location below. You need to move pin 10 to 11. Use a small needle nose plier to gently pull the white strip off of the connector. Then carefully pull back a few rows then with great hand dexterity (LOL) use an x-acto knife or small blade and lift up the locking tab holding the wire and pull out the wire. My hands are large and I’ve lost a bit of dexterity so it took a while for me. Lots of profanity uttered that day. Haha.

FYI Pin 10 is a white wire if that helps.

UPDATE: I had everything working then not and I think I figured it out. I was able to get the above quoted working with no flasher relay and no resistors by disabling DRL via TechStream. Seems that is the issue. When I had DRL constant on, per default, the LED’s would hyper flash after a few miles of driving. When I disabled the DRL, there is no hyper flash for 3-days now of some good city driving and using blinkers a lot. Seems this is the ticket. Hope this helps other people who want a little more plug-n-play of some error free/CANBUS bulbs.
