Default 05 KDSS coil conversion issues

I’m in the middle of swapping out the airbags for Moog 81081 with the Metaltech stage 2 kit and I cannot get the passenger coil installed. Drivers side went in easily. Disconnected the lower bolt on the shocks and jacked up the drivers side for more articulation.

Any suggestions on how to get this spring installed? It’s too late in the evening to rent or buy a spring compressor.

Thanks in advance.

I also had to use the stock bottle jack to push again the frame or bump stop and the axle on the passenger side, and you have to use a spring compressor as well. And, it would be good to loosen the KDSS shutter valves for easier articulation of the sway bars. Sorry you are going through this, I just did it on saturday myself and I did the passenger side first after removing both bags or springs first so that the drivers side can be jacked up higher.

Thanks, heading out to rent a spring compressor now. I got within about half an inch if it being installed but no dice.

got it done with the use of spring compressors, a bottle jack on the axle and loosening the bolt on the track bar.

Was going to open up the valves on the kdss system but one of the valves is slightly stripped and that’s something I’ll address when I lift the vehicle in a few months.

Rides much better now with coils instead of sagging air springs. Thanks for your help!

hi GreggyG, any suggestions for a kdss shutter valve that is stripping out and seized?? I’ve applied AeroKroil multiple times. One of the valves loosened easily but the other is stuck.

Today I took an 11mm hex bit and filed it down to fit the expanded valve but no luck.

I’ve seen how some 200 series guys will weld a nut to the valve but on the GX it looks like brass or another soft metal. im looking to replace the stabilizer bushings and add a small lift soon but I’m at a standstill with this issue.

thanks for any ideas!

Sorry to hear that. My 06’ shutter valves are nuts/ bolts, not Allen bolts. The two options for you are to use a small chisel and ball peen hammer to knock it to turn it. Or, weld a nut on the end and use a wrench

Going with the welded nut option tomorrow. I’ll report back with results.
