I recently bought a used 2004 GX 470 with KDSS. I was told upon purchase that it was "removed" and regular struts were installed.....Not The Case! Anyway, the KDSS has went out, horrible horrible now. Can I have regular shocks put on to avoid the cost to replace/repair the KDSS or am I stuck?
Hello... so there will be a bit of confusion with your post for us, so expect some flack.
The KDSS system is a suspension add-on from the factory that helps reduce roll, increase stability, and overall smooth out the handling of our vehicles. There is a "strut" of sorts for the stabilizer bars, which are larger and stronger. The KDSS has nothing much to do with your regular coils (springs) and struts/shocks. That is just the suspension. If KDSS goes out, the ride may appear less smooth, but I don't recall people mentioning it being overly rough.
If if you are referring to the rear suspension (which is an air suspension) many of us will take this off at some point vs repairing, and replacing the rear airbag suspension pieces with a coil from many suppliers or even an FJ/4Runner of the same generation.
Could you give give more detail or provide pics of what you think is causing the issues, so we can help further?
