Hey guys, I have a pristine 05 gx that only has 30,000 miles on it. Lately, Im having the typical problems Ive seen reported on other threads: vsc, vsc trac off, check engine, etc.

Ive read a bunch of the threads and they say a gas cap could help with these evap codes. So I replaced the gas cap with oem. Its throwing a p1441 code.

Has anyone else had this problem and had it solved with replacement of other parts other than the compressor (the expensive fix involving valves etc)???

Or am I out of luck and about to have to cough up the cash?

If you search here, the topic has been covered pretty well - either get the OEM for $$$, or if you're ok with an aftermarket part in that location, buy the Dorman replacement and swap the connector wiring. Or if you live in an area with lenient emissions inspections, get a blocker plate.

So no one has has this code and fixed it with something other than those parts? Just wondering if anything else has tripped up these codes. Inspections are strict here and I want everything to be factory (non oem is fine though). I tried searching threads but all the ones I find are the ones solved with a gas cap for the same warning lights.

With regards to replacing the gas cap - it'll take several drive cycles with the new cap for those lights to clear (if that was the cause) And it's possible that your replacement cap is bad (but unlikely). Your mechanic can do a gas tank pressure test to see if there are leaks elsewhere.

I reset the codes by taking off the negative lead to the battery and the lights came back. Seems the gas cap wasn't the problem although I really hope it is.

 

i had the same problem with my gx and had to replace secondary air motor, secondary air valve. Quite a job, not for the weak.
Have to pull intake and have to be careful disconnecting wiring as connectors are of brittle. If you do, simply use plastic tie straps and silicone adhesive in order to keep connected. Good luck.

 

Yeah it seems I'm going to have to do this also, ill have a shop do it to maintain service records. Im pretty upset that I'm having to due this extensive of a repair with only 30,000 miles on the car.

Regarding inspection, I believe this pump only comes on if cat hasn't reached operating temp, more useful in colder states.

What year is your GX?, If you are in California I can't believe this pump/valve failed with so little mileage. Was it originally a snow belt vehicle?, or maybe lot of short trips?.

This pumps turns off within 20 seconds here in TX even on cold start.
