Default My navigation system stopped working

My nav / entertainment system screen only shows the opening safety message. It will not go beyond this screen. The screen will show changes in temp, radio and disc. It does not show the navigation screen. I was told it needed a new navigation disc. However I am not clear this is the right diagnosis. I cannot tell if this is a screen issue or system issue. I would I test this question?

Try ejecting and reinserting the disc and see what happens.

Remove the key from the ignition. Slide the passenger seat forward. Under the seat - open the door (two step process), and press the eject button.

Next step would be to disconnect the battery for about 10 minutes (you will need to reprogram the auto-down windows, the seat memory, and the radio presets afterwards) and see if that resets things. (if your battery is 4+ years old, probably time for a new one anyway).

Personally, I wouldn't spend more than a nickel getting that fixed. An old navigation system is not very useful, and the interface is very archaic. Get a Bluetooth interface, fire up Google Maps on your phone, enjoy much better interface with more accurate up-to-date maps.
