Question oil changes

Anyone done their own oil change yet or are y'all too lazy to do it yourselves? If u have, how easy was it? I plan on doing mine, assuming it's relatively easy.

I take it the 70 bucks Lexus charges for oil changes is not worth it and your past the 5000 mile complimentary Lexus service, so what is this the 2nd change at 10k.

It easy as cake, the skid plate is held up by 4 bolts forget the size but 14mm or something like that, yeah 14, drain bolt is 10, then when you have that off it should hang by 2 hooks, makes it easy to put it on cause of it's weight, now their are additional skid plates made out of plastic, it should have an oval shape in it that pops out and right their is your drain bolt the 1st time has a learning curve but after that 20 minute changes is easy, oh and the filter is right behind the front skid plate, really makes no mess but to keep it even cleaner use a little bag and unscrew the filter so that the oil will spill in the bag.

If you buy the Filter from Lexus you can save a few dollars and pick it up at Toyota, all the V8 Trucks share the same engine and filter.

How often do you change the oil, are you going to stay with dino oil or switch to full synthetic

edit: filter goes on hand tight

I'm at about 6k right now, but plan on doing changes every 3k after the 5k checkup I just had. I'm just going to go with Castrol non-synthetic and see if Fram makes a filter. Thanks for tips on changing it. BTW - do you have to put your Lexus on ramps or can you easily fit under it? My other car, (a Civic) is lowered 2" and I have to use the ramps.

I bought ramps but can easily change it without the ramps long as you got a good reach

Do you guys need the sequence to reset the maintenance light after the oil change? The light comes on after starting, but goes out in a couple seconds. I have it since my dealer forgot to reset it at the 5K change and he thought I could do it.

My dealer forgot to reset me a couple months back. He emailed me TSIB EL002-03, and thought I could handle resetting it to save me the drive. He asked that I destroy the bulletin after use.....I guess I forgot that part!!!

To reset the Service Maintenance Reminder Light;
1. Turn the ignition switch to the 'ON' position.
2. Set the Odometer / Trip Display to the 'ODO" mode.
3. Turn the ignition switch to the "OFF" position.
4. Depress and HOLD the Trip Meter 'RESET" button while turning the ignition switch to the "ON" position.
5. The Service Maintenance Reminder Light will:
a. Illuminate solidly for 3 seconds.
b. Blink for 2 seconds.
c. Illuminate solidly for 1 second.
d. Turn Off.
6. Release the Trip Meter "RESET" button.
7. Turn the igition to the "OFF" position
8. Turn the igition to the "ON" position, and confirm that the Service Maitenance Reminder Light goes out.

Note: If the light continues blinking in step 5a, turn the ignition off, and repeat the procedure from step 1.

Hi Allison.....

Yes, I use Mobile 1 on my GX. Going in for my third oil change soon. The dealer told me I'm wasting my money, but I used it on my QX4 for over 100,000 miles, before I gave it to my grandaughter.

My dealer told me the same thing when I asked about full synthetic. They use Castrol Syntec Blend as their standard oil for the GX so that is what I am using. Still toying with the idea of bringing Mobil 1 to them when I get the oil changed but how do you know they actually use the oil you bring in?

This is why I have no respect for the salespeople, their are the few who I like but does this guy who told you to destroy it realize it's in the owners manual

How many miles did you go before you would change the oil with M1.

Nothin wrong with synthetic but I think doing 3000 mile intervals is kinda pointless but then again whatever makes you happy and if thats the way you do it then cool, many of the 4Runner guys do 5k, 6k, and even 10k changes, some of then might change the oil filter at 5k and then top it off

I just put M1 in my 4Runner cause the oil will be in their for at least 7k then Im gonna have it analized
