Default Projector Headlamps Question

Hi all, I am new to the board and will be purchasing a GX-470 within a couple of months and have a couple of questions for those that already have theirs.

1. How are the projector headlights? I was really dissapointed to learn that Lexus doesn't offer their superior HID lighting (IMO, one of their signature trademarks) on the GX-470.

By that question I mean does it throw out more light than say the average Halogen lighting on other vehicles and also is it the yellowish type lighting as with other "average" vehicles or is it still a "white" type of light just without being HID?

2. What percentage of you are having the "vibration" issue I have read about here? Is this common amongst most of you are just isolated cases?

Thanks in advance,

Donovan

I hear that the GX does not come with HIDs, yet every picture (well not every one) I see with the headlights on shows HID colored blue light coming from the projectors, can anyone explain this?

here's a CL example...

A possible reason could be the HID is not yet available for the H11 (low beam) type buld.

The projectors do an excellent job on my GX. Our BMW 5 has HID's and the two are really about equal.

Unhappy

I was very disppointed the GX did not come with the HIDS as standard.

Once you have HIDS, there is no going back.

HIDS are really much brighter than the stock Halogen lamps.

donovan,

IMO, the gX projector headlights put off a larger amount of light than "normal" headlights, however, IMO, no where near HID. My SC had HIDs and really liked the output. I looked into many aftermarket HID kit makers and no one has a kit for the H11 yet. I found 1 place that was willing to produce a phillips H11 HID kit but we need @ least 10 orders. I have only 4 interested parties. I also have 1 other source that sent an H11 bulb to a manufacturer. We should have an answer inabout 2 weeks. I'll keep you posted.

To me the lights are plenty bright. No practical difference from my 740i with HIDs.

Default Headlights are fine

I too would have preferred the HIDs since I became spoiled in my SC. However, in all truthfullness, these lights are very bright and provide more than adequate coverage. They are superior to the regular lights in the RX which I was used to. Definitely whiter than average - not as white as HID.

Next weekend I will try lining up the GX and SC side by side and see if I can capture with my digital camera the "brightness" and "intensity" comparison. Not sure if it will work but I will try.
