Default Dealer service question

I just had new tires put on 5k miles ago and my wife took the truck into Lexus with our normal service guy. He's been 100% solid with me for years and has not recco'd anything other than the reg maint items (belts, timing/water pump, Trans Flush). She pays the bill and it's $175 for an oil change and road force balance. I just had them all mounted and balanced six months ago. Is it normal to re-balance after 5k miles/6 months? That makes no sense to me as everything was perfect, I just wasn't there to tell him do not do that or at least question. Any thoughts on this? Did i just get taken for $85? It's not the money, just the principal that bothers me.

Thanks,

Chris

Is it possible she mentioned a rough ride?

Also, it can be normal to rebalance when rotating tires.

I have bought tires from and independent, on occasion after tires "settle in" they have needed to be re-balanced, was never charged. has not happened that often and I am a good customer...maybe a weight fell off that wasnt hammered or stuck on good. Bad move charging to rebalance tires after only 5000 miles or a rew months and charging the customer, especially a good customer.
