So its maintenance day on the GX....changed the oil, greased the drive shaft and then start on the plugs.

Taking out the 10mm bolt on the very first cylinder and the f-ing bolt snaps. It was cranked in there really hard and took a bit of effort to break it free, way more than it should have. Tried the next one to see what it was like and I'll be damned if its cranked in there too.

At this point, I think I am going to have it towed to the dealer (Toyota) and let the pros handle it. How screwed am I?

 

Re you talking about the 10mm that holds the coil pack on top of each spark plug? They'll just drill the bolt out and re-tap them, or maybe use a helicoil if the hole is to rounded out after drilling. Shouldn't be a huge deal, but that depends on what they charge you...

 

Yea, thats the one. Think I could drive to the dealership without that bolted down? Only have to go about 8 miles and it'll save me a tow.

 

simple problem and yes, no problem driving. no need to tow it.

Sometimes it pays to use impact wrench it puts small bursts of torque which help in loosening a stubborn bolt.

all good now....wasnt too bad. Less than $200 and that included them changing the plugs.

 

I second that, anytime you deal with something that is constantly being heated and cooled use some penetrating lube, cant go wrong with lube. EVER!

 

Man. My dealer quoted me $360. I passed on it and was going to try it myself, or take it to an independent.

 

How many miles are you guys changing the plugs at? I have 120k and my truck runs flawless

 

Even long life plugs recommend changing at around 60,000 miles, I'd say if yours are original, they are due.
