Ok....Just bought a 2014 f-sport. Made the dealership trade-out the Bridgestones for Dunlops....seem to be a much better ride. Looking at alternatives I noticed there are two different sizes for front and rear....hmmm? Since the 5K free service is a look-see and tire rotation, what is the point of even taking the car in unless you (like I) will get an oil change? Rear tires and front tires can't be rotated.

 

Neither is the answer for the first question. I think other owners may have found better options, maybe Michelin or Continental. Although I am not sure about the F-Sport. I think there may be threads on tires already in progress.

The second question about the 5K service . . . . . most people say the same thing that maybe it is a waste of time. I think you can rotate the tires side to side. Most people, if convenient, just take the car in to have the service on the record. Just in case you encounter an issue down the road, Lexus can't come back and say you skipped a service interval.

 

Neither but if the choice is one or the other I would opt for the Dunlop's as I've never had a good set of Bridgestone's and would refuse them on any car I would buy or lease....Think Bridgestone/Firestone....Dunlop/Goodyear.

 

Michelin Pilot Super Sport

 

Michelins and continentals are great brands. cant go wrong with either. Michelin is a bit pricier but also superior in quality than the rest. continentals are less expensive, have better ratings, but are more prone to sidewall bubbles. brigestone and Dunlop ride more harsh. goodyears are so so..

I wouldn't bother taking it in unless you really want your 5k service recorded. otherwise, just enjoy it!

 

5k is a good idea, you can get some personal settings like the blinker changed during that service. Also, the dealer gets a chance to kick the tires and see if anything looks faulty from the factory. 5k is a good shake-down period where if anything is majorly defective from the factory, it should show up on inspection.

Also the tire rotation isn't a bad idea either. Yeah, front to rear offset makes the standard X pattern rotation impossible, but left to right swaps help too. Lexus sells alot of these in AWD trim and I believe those get matching tires front and rear, and a full X pattern rotation.

Can you skip it? Sure, but it's free, and if you have a list of rattles and other annoyances (like the f'ed up finish on the F Sport wheels), it's a good time to bring those up.
