Default LEXUS Newbie

Hello Club Lexus,

Just purchased my first Lexus, a 2007 GX470 with 90k miles. Drives like brand new with the exception of the dreaded clunk that I'll work on over the next few months. One great aspect of used Lexi (is that a word?) is they usually are owned by people of means and who take care of their property. This one had full maintenance records from new all performed at Lexus. It just had the timing belt/waterpump done this past March. It has new front struts and rear shocks. The exhaust manifolds were just replaced at a Lexus dealership and all brakes/tires were replaced within the last 10k.

Two quick questions:
1) Do the new clunk fixes actually eliminate the problem or just minimize it?
2) If you do not repair the clunk, does that impact long term durability?

I plan to kill quite a few hours and single malt surfing the site for little nuggets of info and guidance.

Just get a new drive shaft part # 371106A480 , no more clunk

I had the same clunk, when stopping and going, like someone tapped/hit the truck from the back. Pink Mobil 1 grease, and after doing several zerks took care of it. It has been 7000 miles and barely if not none clunk noise.

Welcome to GX forum.
Regards to the issues .
Replacement is the best. If you don't, there is no safety issue or damage. It is just the clunk will annoy it when you want to drive it smooth. I had drive for 2 years and then replaced it. If you are under warranty get it replaced. If not buy it with a discount from Sewell as CL members do have a % discount. And the job is dam easy, having basic tools and jack.

Thanks for the advice. The local Toyota dealership has a new prop shaft with the proper updated number for $290. That seems pretty realistict considering it's a new OEM part. Ironically the local Lexus dealership quoted me the same part for $370.

Reminds me of my C5 Corvette compared to other GM parts. Even though certain parts were identical to other GM products, they was the Corvette mark up. Appears Lexus is no different.

Oh well. My GX is great. With 91k on the odo, just went on a short trip of 200 miles and got 19.8 mpg calculated the old fashioned way. Filling up at the same pump on the same day. Pretty pleased with that. Also just towed my boat for the first time (approx. 4800 lbs total) and it managed without breaking a sweat. Temp gage didn't change form where it resides during normal driving.

So far, other then the clunk, very pleased.
