Default HIDs

I installed a 55w 8000K HID kit on my GX470, but the amount of light coming out isn't sufficient, compared to another car i installed exactly the same kit on. I get a really nice, bright light that spreads a good distance with my other car and on the Lexus, i get dim light with some greenish tint (should be blue as it is 8000K) that doesn't light a lot of the road ahead of me.

Any ideas why that might be and what can i do to improve the amount of light and the distance it shines?

Thanks in advance.

8K is really not all that great for Bright white light --I run 5K and its stupid bright on my GX. What other car do you have a kit on, is it a SUV, remember GX sits much higher than you car thus your lights are much closer to the road. Are both bulbs greenish tint--something doesnt sound right if they have that color tint.

What "kit" did you buy? Was the kit new or used? Are both bulbs giving off the same color? Have you checked to see if the bulb is seated correctly? Did you try cleaning the headlight lenses? Did your other car have projectors or reflectors?

That's the problem w/ certain kits, they're not consistent w/ what they put out. Sometimes you get what you pay for.

8k is terrible for light output, not to mention I think it would look silly purple. Change the bulb to a 4300k or 5k bulb.

I run 4300k Morimoto bulbs w/35 watt ballasts and it is intensly bright.

thank you for your replies.

both kits were brand new and was bought from the store i trust and bought before and had no issues with. they are not cheap kits you see on some sites. the other car is a sedan and with 8K on it, outputs a really bright, white with blue tint light. On GX, both sides output the same greenish dim light. I realize that since SUVs are higher, it will not be as good as the sedan's but there difference seems to be really big. I did try to reinsert the bulbs, make sure they are clean, seated correctly, etc. - nothing helped.

What brand is the "kit"?

If both use the same bulb try switching the kit from your car to your GX and see if the color stays the same as the car. If they use different bulbs return it, get your money back then buy a reliable kit from TRS:

Better yet save your money and do a retro:

Sounds like bad ballasts or bad bulbs coupled with a low output Kelvin rating. Swap out the bulbs and/or swap out the kit - those are your options.

Kind of Odd that Both are doing it? I would swap out the bulbs from your other car to see if those fire up nice and bright as that would rule out your ballast.
