Question Tires

I have a 2006 GX470. I need to get new tires. I called my Lexus dealer and he recommended the Dunlop because I was concerned about the cost. Any advice or comments about the Dunlop tires?

If cost is your criteria than I would go somewhere other that your dealer to start with. Michelin will always be your premier tire, everything else will be a compromise. I am sure within a few hours your will see many recommendation for their cross terrain , LTX/ms2 or the LTX/AT depending on your needs. That being said dunlop makes a good tire, I have used their Radial Rover AT.

My Dunflops didn't last 25k miles. Terrible.
I'm on Michelin on LTX/ms2 now.

Go to Discount Tire and they'll give you options.

My 2004 CPO had new Dunlop Grand Trek AT20's when I bought it. 31K miles later and they are close to their demise. Maybe another 2-4000 miles left, and they were properly inflated and rotated. Personally, I think they suck. If you look at their ratings they have low trea life expectancy. I agree with not going to the dealer. I used Discount Tire for my wife's Honda recently and it was a decent experience. I also used Tire Rack and a local installer and it was even better. The Michelins are without question the best but also expensive. Tire Rack has a Continental tire that is very highly rated and great in wet conditions. The only issue is that they have not been reviewed many times, but the existing reviews on Tire Rack are good.

Here is a link to the Continental I am considering for my 2004. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....0&autoModClar=

Here's ANOTHER recommendation for Michelin LTX/MS2 tires, regardless of their extra cost. They will last MUCH longer than any Dunlops, and they are amazing/remarkable in snow & ice. Lastly, they handle superbly, are smooth riding and very quiet.

Those Dunlops will leave a bad taste in your mouth long after you have forgotten about how much money you saved, which I predict will only be a couple of hundred dollars.

Ok, I called Discount Tires and they recommended the Cooper Discover H/T --They quoted me $149. Any comments on these tires? I did find out that they have Michelin LTX MS2 for $219.

I've only had my GX470 for a little over a month. I put on Michelin LTX MS2's right before I left on a 1,700 mile road trip and they were awesome on the road on both wet and dry pavement.

Cheers,
Kermee

I took the car into Lexus today for service. I told them about Discount Tires' quote for the Michelin LTX MS2 and Lexus was willing to match it. Yay! I want to thank you all for your replies. It really helped me out because I was completely clueless about tires. Thanks again! Have a great day!

I am new to the group site, and really appreciate the thread about tires, as I too need to replace my Michelins on my GX470 that now as reached 90,000 miles.

I put the BFGoodrich Long Trail T/A Tour tires on my 08 GX. $165 each at Discount Tire. I've found them to have great traction and they are very quiet on the highway. Highly recommended.

I, too, have the BFG Long Trail T/As and love them. Once these go out, I will be putting the BFG A/T like I have on my Excursion. For the money, BFG is hard to beat, as is Michelin.

Running Goodyear Wrangler SilentArmor on ours. Have about 12k miles on them so far and they are holding up well. Not as quite at a Michelin but better traction so it's a toss up on what you want from your tires.
