Default Looking at gx's

So we are looking for a gx to replace our lx, no longer need a car that big an are between a 08 and 05. Both are similarly optioned with navi ect and besides minor exterior upgrades, are there any real difference? What kind of mpg are we looking at? I'm assuming premium is required. Both have 67k miles the 08 is silver on dark gray and the 05 is black on tan. The 08 is 29.9k and the 05 is 24.3, but from the Lexus dealer. Any advice here?Going to test drive both tomorrow thanks any immediate input would be great

my advice would be get the 08, not sure the difference between 05 & 08. someone else can point this out better than I do. ( mine is 04, old fart lol... )

mpg is depends on where & how u drive, i got mine around 18-19 mpg freeway commute mostly. local commute would be around 16-17mpg. don't waste ur money on premium gas, i tried premium the first few months, it didn't make difference on mpg at all. i've been using the regular/the middle one since then.

hey masboy, i know ur suppose to use 91 or better since the manual said so... but have you noticed any knocking or issues that anyone else would have from running less than 91octane? thanx

oh to op, i would pick up the 05 and not the 08, only cuz of the 05 had less than 10k miles a year on it but more importantly the several thousands you save from 05, but check maintenance on the 05 tho since that thing is close to out of warranty, gl

'03 & '04 only required regular gas

thanx again rr, glad to own an 04 and not the later ones, also sad to see i've been dumping tons of 91oct gas into my truck for nothin... hahaha

They have the same power. Below are the differences
2008 has these
Clear back up light housing
Chrome speakers surrounds
Nicer wood trims - much better looking and richer than 07 and older year
Aux connector
And of course it is newer.

2005 the compression ratio got bumped up so 91 could be more beneficial but i search and it seems the 05 and 06 are the same ratio but 05 om say 87min and 06 om say 91 required and 2008 4runner om say 87min, weird... i guess 87 is ok but for later models 91 could give ya more power/mpg i guess...

while we're on the subject... 2005 and later gx470 got 35 more hp... this is a lame hp increase given that this is crank power increase and not rear wheel hp increase... the 320 torque is nice cuz that really make the truck move from redlight to redlight... i can tell you that my g35 coupe with at 3400lb with 270hp 280tq it is slow in stock form when i boosted the hp to 300hp it was still slow for a sport car... i don't see how 35hp increase at the crank is gonna do anything for 5k lb truck... but i still love this truck tho

Gold 06 with 50k miles jsut came in, new tires fully loaded minus kdss, for 26k and is certified for 3 year warranty. If the 08 came from the Lexus dealer, ti would probably be our choice but we do not know yet. The main things we were looking for are a backup camera and bluetooth

Lower miles with a maintenance history is the best bet, I wouldnt worry about the year unless you want the certified warranty. I know you probably know this already but if not, you can run the VIN at http://drivers.lexus.com/lexusdrivers/home and see the maintenance thats been done through Lexus.

I just bought my GX about 2 weeks ago. Its an '05, 1 owner and the lady had EVERY service / maintenance done at our local Lexus dealer, I have over 5 pages of stuff. She religiously took it in every 5K miles for an oil change and tire rotation. That was a huge plus for me when I bought mine.

Thanks for the input, i know my way in and out of lexus' pretty well, gx' unfortunately are not my thing,]. Any input from owners would be great, we are looking at ones fron lexus dealerships because of the 3 year/ 100k mile warrantee.

Before I bought my GX I did some reading on this forum. Things to look out for are the ride height sensors, cracked dashboard, warped rotors, rear clunk and as I just found out, the ML speakers will eventually separate on you. Other than that theyre pretty much bullet proof.

I dont think in the '05+ you have to use premium gas and as far as gas mileage Ive read 14-16mpg city and 21-24mpg highway. I drive pretty much all city and Im averaging 11-12mpg and Im babying it, not sure why Im getting such a low number but I dont care, it beats the 9mpg my CTS-V got.

more than that. 08 you get the chrome door handles as well, and i forgot since what year they got the graphite color wheels. you can think of 08 as a slight facelift.

the op states he wants bluetooth..... what year did that start? My '04 certainly doesn't.
