Hey,

We are looking for an SUV since we have two little monkeys. One is 6months and other just turned 2yrs.

Can you tell me if this is a good price. If price is not right we may go with Acura MDX

I really like the 2nd Gen, they wont go down on the price.

I may be the only one who says this but according to NADA guides, the price is low. The Sport package including the KDSS suspension is fairly hard to find. If it does have black birds-eye maple, than it's got the KDSS. I paid $32K for my 05 with 17K miles just a few months back. Saying that, buy what you like FOR SURE. I think you will be very happy with the GX. The gas mileage isn't as good as your other choice. See if you can get them to knock a few thousand off their price.

Good Luck!

Dealer came back and this is what he is offering

Here's the total out the door price,
$43,900.00
$181.08 doc fee
$$3195.87 sales tax
$195.00 new plates

$47,471.95 total price.

Can I still bring down the asking price. This is way to much for a 3yr old car.

Thanks
Nilam

Pricing is specific to each market, it's all about supply/demand. That said, the price sounds high to me esp for a GX pushing 40k mi. I would expect to pay mid/high 30's tops. Offer $37k and waive the dealer money-making doc fee. Alternatilvey broaden your search radius and be prepared to travel for the right deal.

FWIW, i would go for a GX over an MDX any day, but then again I guess I am biased. If it's the car you want take your time the right one will come along.

"It's too much money for a 3yr old car."

* If you haven't already, do some research on car values in your area: NADA, edmunds, kbb, autotrader, etc. Be informed.

* To save money, look at older GXs. I'm pretty sure the '08s are identical to '09s. The difference between the '07s and '08/'09s is the latter have darker wood and some additional chrome trim inside and out. The only major change that I'm aware of is the slightly more powerful motor in '05 models and up. Other posts have done a much better job at detailing the changes than I can.

Happy shopping.

I agree with cssnms even though some people would tell you its a great price. You said its 09 right, and then you said "This is way to much for a 3yr old car" My best guess is 2008 would be mid 30's. But then again every market is different.

Here's an '09 with 26k mi listed for $43k, which means you could likely buy it for under or around $40k.

Guys,

Thanks for all your help. I may look around and see what I can find. I will go back to the dealer and see if he goes down on the price

My experience is usually you can cut down 2-3k from dealer's list price. When I shopped mine one, I was able to drop 2.5K at two dealers. Agree with others, top 30s maybe the reasonable price. GX470 for sure will top over the MDX.
Good luck.

Nilam,

Welcome to the forum and good luck which your search.

I'm surprised that no-one jumped out and yelled that you are considering 2 entirely different vehicles... (I'm not going to go into specifics, I'm sure you know...) And, yes, the crowd here would be biased...

Now, from a more practical point of view... We use Britax Boulevard car seat for my 4-yr old. I have no problem getting him in and out, but GX is mostly driven by my wife. And she is constantly complaining how much of a hassle is getting the kid in and out of the car seat... It is worth noting that she says it is easier to strap him into the car seat (also a Boulevard) in my 4Runner (which is strange to me because the tires on 4Runner are an inch taller than the GX ).

So while the GX is so much more an SUV (a real body-on-frame truck) than an MDX (a glorified minivan), with 2 little ones in the car seats in the back row MDX may be a more convenient option.

Just my 2 cents...

Naw, it's an 05. I've got the VVTI engine. Currently sitting at 21K miles. I really do love the guy who traded my truck in for me.

Reminds me, need to schedule an oil change...

Look for a low mileage 07-08 GX, Its the same truck and you could find similar miles with a substantial savings. also look for CPO. I drove an 09 GX while my 04 GX was being serviced, really couldn't tell the difference for the $40k price tag. I paid $22,500 a little over a year ago and love my truck(and the silver pine metallic color)
