Why not CPO
Is there a formula or a reason why some vehicles with fairly low milage are not CPO? Looking at a couple of 2007 470's with under 50,000 miles, both are not CPO. There is a price difference of about $3000 for the CPO's at the dealer with more miles.
My point? Wondering if you can get the report from the dealer that shows the reasons why the car was passed on. Something tells me the vehicle could only have one previous owner and it may be as simple as that. The only other item that stands out in my mind was verifiable service records from a licensed dealer.
oh...and no accidents.

Edit: Report is called Recommended Treatment Plan

CPO is a waste of your money. It's just a way for the dealership to get you to spend more money for a car that "you can't get anywhere else".
How do I know this? Because I am a dealer!
"Why does this one cost more than the others I'm seeing in the paper/internet?"
"This vehicle costs more because of the value you receive from our prestigious Certified Pre-Owned Program. Wouldn't you agree its worth the peace of mind knowing that your new vehicle has gone through a rigorous inspection process and had any faults corrected?"
Bunch of bull. Buy from an independent owner or a dealership not affiliated with Lexus and then go to your closest Lexus/Toyota dealer and ask to speak with the Finance manager about a Service Contract, only a ToyotaCare or Fidelity Warranty, nothing else. You'll save thousands, send some to me if you're feeling generous.
9 times out of 10, when we have someone purchasing a CPO unit in my store, we de-certify the unit and sell them a better extended warranty, pass the savings on to the customer.

Pass on the CPO because you can buy the Lexus extended warranty on your own as long as the car is still under the factory warranty (4yr / 50K mi). There's two or three Lexus / Toyota dealers frequently referenced on this site who will sell it to you for way less than your local stealership.
However, I'd never buy any used car without getting it inspected. This only costs ~$100. Assuming it's in the shape you want, then buy the factory extended warranty and you're golden.
