Default Air Suspension problem (please help)

Hello everybody,
I finally bought GX470 (for my wife). I have 2000 GS 400. Its 2005 with 39k miles one owner, everything works. I love the car, it drives like a dream. We had before 2007 Infiniti FX45 not a bad car. Nothing special. But GX is totally diffrent story, much smoother drive, much more powerful, AWD. Lexus is the Lexus.

My question is: I just noticed on air suspension it has 3 position

High
N
Low.
When I put from N to Low it stays for 4 minutes and then it goes back to N again. I even try to turn off the air suspension while it, in the Low mode. It still comes back to N.

What could cause this problem.

Thank you.

Are you moving withen that 4 minutes--its not designed to stay in Low, thats just for when you are stopped. Nothing seems wrong with what you are saying

Thank you so much for reply, but what is the purpose of that option then? If its doesnt stay in Low position while you moving? May be for unloading trailer?

Thank you,
Eugene.

I thought it would stay in "low" if you didn't go over 15mph? Or is that the high setting?

Regardless, the low is to help when loading/unloading, etc. I don't think it would be good for the shocks to drive around like that.

Thank you for reply

That's what I thought too for unloading, because every time my friend unload his M3 from trailer, he has to raise the trailer. So the car wouldnt scrape the bottom.

my 2004 GX470 does the same thing and when raising or lowering the springs or shocks make a thump, but Lexus has it programed so that when driving you get the best feel when driving the GX so when its on N that means your at the most comfy position.

If your GX makes a thumping noise when you raise or lower it, then you the the drive train clunk. There is a TSB for that fix, its on the sticky on top.

Last week I noticed that our GX was riding a little rougher over bumps than I remembered.. A little bouncer... Took it into dealer... Dealer had to replace rear shocks.. Apparently they had a small leak.. Nothing visible to me. Back to magic carpet ride again, but very strange. Vehicle only has 55k plus the rear height sensor was replaced for the second time at 48k.... Anyone else experiencing rougher ride? I am still on the original michelins cross terrians... The look in great shape, even wear.. But was told as they wear the ride will be effected.... Guess some new rubber will be required this year.

Guys I think we are moving a bit off topic from the original lexus 4 me raised.
Now coming to the Air Suspension, Do note GX470 on the rear LH/RH have got a sensor which are called as Right and Left Rear Height Control Sensor along with a circuit. They are interlinked to the Suspension Control ECU. This sensor inside is a brush intergrated with a control shaft providing linear output. The resistance value between the brush and the resistor is proportionate to the shaft angle, and that is the ride which is computes from the sensor. This is indicated onto your cluster. If there is malfunction it will blink and the height control operation is suspended, otherwise it is normal that the ride height is computed from the sensor along with Bank angle Acceleration sensor.
And if the vehicle height control is attempting on a steeply sloping road, when the vehicle is overloaded,or when the vehicle is jacked up with engine running, the compressor motor operates continously to raise the vehicle height and causes electric current to flow to the Air Suspension relay for 100 sec or longer.

Mann777,
Thank you a lot for complete explanation. When I wrote this topic I was new to Lexus GX scene, and I was scared that something wrong with airpump. After that I did my homework and I relized that nothing wrong with my air suspension.
