Default Problem with HIDs blinking at high speeds

Hey guys,

I installed on my dad's car an Extreme 4300K HID kit from xenondepot. I followed the instructions posted on the website here. Everything works well except there is a slight problem. When driving at higher speeds, for example on the highway, the HIDs blink. They turn off and on right again. So people driving in front think you are signalling to them to switch lanes, and everybody keeps getting pissed off. They blink pretty frequently, about once a minute. Did anyone else run into this problem before? Thanks for any help!

Hi,

It sounds like you have a loose connection. Speed will have no effect on the HID performance.

May be the wind coming thru under the hood moving some wires around, you have something loose up under there for sure

Both of them blink or just one? Did you install both relays provided in the kit? Where are you getting your main power to the HIDs (directly from the battery?) ? Where and how did you ground the balances? Both at the same location? .... so many variables.

I would unplug and clean the connectors. Are the ballast mounted securely?

Well for some reason speed does have an effect, this only happens at high speeds. The ballasts are mounted securely. I already unplugged, cleaned, and checked all connections before. Both of the lights blinks. I installed both relays, and yes the power is coming from the battery. Balances? did you mean ballast? The ballasts were mounted at two different places, and were grounded on the inside of the engine bay on two separate places

Check your main Power line coming from your battery up to the were the main fuse is! It has to be somewhere in that I would think because Both are doing it, so somewhere its losing main power.. Check the fuse area--make sure the fuse is in Tight, maybe replace the fuse too just to make sure as it may have a weak spot somehow.

Are you 100% sure it's both lights flashing?

If it's both, then I'm 99.999% confident the issue is not w/ the HIDs themselves but with the car. Reason being: each light is 100% it's own circuit. It's a safety feature in case one side goes out. So, something affecting both equally means the cause is before their separate circuits in the system. The things they have in common are:

- main power source (your battery) - but separate leads from it - not likely cause if both are secured and have good contact

- ground (chassis) but again separate points - not likely cause either

- turn on source (low beam headlights) each is fused separately but relay is common - my guess is here as a place to start

So... unless you eliminated one of the HID's relays or +12V leads from the battery and made them common for both sides, I suspect the issue is w/ your GX's OEM lighting circuitry. I would temporarily swap back in your std halogen bulbs (disconnecting the HIDs) and see if they too flash or "pulse" at speed. Since they are halogens, I you won't see them completely turn on off, but you will see them pulse. If you do, then you need to dig in further to find out why they are "pulsing"... could be an alternator issue etc.

Start by eliminating HIDs and good luck

Thats why Im also saying check the main power source from the hot lead from the battery to the fuse before it seperates the circuits!

No I didn't fix it yet. It's my dad's car, I might try it this weekend, we're just both on different schedules.

Check your relay, power connection, ground - in that order.
