08 GX470 with remote start ??

Hi all,

I'm new to the forum and I'd like to say hi to everybody.

I'm planning to install the remote starter on the 08 GX470 myself and I installed 1 on my 04 Acura MDX last week, it's not too bad.

Anybody ever done it DIY before, please let me know how it turned out ?

WELCOME!

I've never done an install myself but you'll need a valet key to hide in the dash because there's a chip in it.

A chip as in a smart key kind of a deal? Do the older GX's have one too? I'd like to hear how it works/purpose of it.

With the present technology, you no longer need to hide the key in your car. You only need to install the immobilizer bypass module to interface with the remote starter module.

I've just completed the installation of the Alarm and remote starter on my 04 Acura MDX last weekend. I had Compustar 2 way LCD remote starter and alarm which Tweeter gave me a quote for $740 bucks. I end up did it myself, it took me half a day on sunday and it was fun to do it yourself and see it works.

The 08 GX470 is a different story since I know it does have a 2 way data link capability where this technology had not implemented on my 04 Acura MDX.

What the 2 way data link does is it does 2 way data communication between the remote starter and the car ECU via CAN bus. Look at the illustration

It took me half a day to complete the installation on the MDX, with 2 way data link capability I can eliminate 50-70% of labor and hard wiring, it might take me about an hour or 2 to complete installation for the GX470.

The reason I'd like to know if anybody ever done the remote starter installation on ther GX470 is to verify that the 2 way data link does exist on it work for remote starter.

Sorry I can't offer any input, but thought I would say, "welcome to the club," it's a great truck!

Let us know how it works out. It would be great if you could document the DIY install w/pictures and post them w/instructions for the benefit of other DIY CL members.
