Hi folks,

My Lexus dealer just sent me a post card regarding the DVD Navigation DVD software upgrade. In the three years that I have owned my 2005 GX, I have never recieved one of these cards nor have I been offered it when I brought the GX in for routing scheduled maintenance. $285 is a bit steep, but I'm wondering if you ALL think it is a worthy upgrade?

I think I can get a better price at Sewell Lexus in TX, but I thinking maybe I'll hold off until next year for 4 years worth of map data upgrade, what do you think?

i have a 2006 so will wait another year...also 2006 allows you/passenger to enter address while car in motion after you do the volume top/down trick...but i think the upgrades eliminate this loophole...so not in a rush right now..

 

REALLY?!????! That would suck, I'm using the loophole now too, that is NOT good news... *sigh*, I guess I'll be saving $285...

I just got that last night also - i did a quick google to see if I could find a better price, but instead I found the download and it works perfectly - updates to the latest version (October 2007) and the override sequence still works. PM for more info

Can anyone explain the loophole to have a passenger be able to use the NAV while driving?. I have a 2004 Lexus GX 470 and have not gotten it to work.

 

With ignition key on.....

Press on "I agree"

Press on "Menu"

Press on "DVD"

Press on upper left corner of screen

Press on lower left corner of screen

Press on upper left corner of screen

Press on lower left corner of screen

Press on lower right corner of screen

Press on "Override" and hold until a beep is heard

Press "Back"

Press "MAP / Voice"

That's it !!!

Is this "override" stored permenet, or you have to do that everytime?

You need to do it everytime you turn on the car.

 

Good news is that you can do that while driving, when the need arises.

Question of the day for those who have upgraded from Gen 5 with 7.1 software:

Gen 5 hardware with FULL 7.1 upgrade, (no hybrid 5.1/7.1) will it give me database of new addresses only or will it be database & updated "3D" graphics?

Bonus, previous posts mentions better NAV directions like 2nd right instead of slight right, true or false?
