Default I Need A Backup Camera!!!

I never thought it would be this difficult to find a backup camera for my GX. I have a 2004 with ML/Navi but it did not come with the factory backup camera. I am assuming that the navi is compatible with a backup camera.

Anyone else add the backup camera and have any advice on where to get one, install deifficulty etc.?

Thanks Cap. Now all I need is the camera itself. Anyone selling one?

Local Costco has been selling a backup camera as part of a license plate frame, IIRC... about $80... Designed to use its own screen but may feed into your Nav unit... Not sure...

Have you thought about using a stock Toyota/Lexus camera.

I would love to use the stock lexus camera! The dealership keeps telling me that because it was not originally on the car there is no way for them to add it now. Sounds ridiculous to me but what do I know

I have to say, your truck is pretty rare. I think they only made that model year w/o camera for about one or two months. I know that, because I was buying my truck at the time. I was told about the camera models being delivered after January of 2004, so I decided to wait.

That was also when they corrected the 6100lb. GVW error (prior models were actually 6000lb. GVW).

They had stopped making the 2004 trucks around late September to retool for the additions and started again mid October. And than those models showed up at end of December or start of January.

Why am I not surprised.... ha ha. I actually spoke to the dealer again and they didnt say that couldnt do it, but more that they didnt want to. They said it would cost at least a grand but they would have to do some research to get me an exact price and it could be considerably more.

I think at this point its safe to say that this is going to be more difficult then I ever imagined and Im not going to put it in. Thank you to all of you who responded.

Default Backup camera

Don't give up. Go to a stereo shop and they can do the whole install for about $500 to $700. A dealer is the last place to go for what you are trying to do!
