Default 30k Checkup

I live in Southern California and purchased my GX at 20k and had a local shop that I trust to perform the 25k oil change, tire rotation, and inspection. I'm now creeping up on my 30k and am leaning towards have a Lexus dealer do the job since I'm getting close to warranty end and want to make sure that everything is thoroughly inspected by the dealer in the event that anything needs replacing.

Based on what the maintenance manual states for 30k it seems like it's mostly the usual oil change, tire rotation, but this time with a lot more inspection. I've called two local dealers and have gotten a quote of about $700 which seems really high to me. Is this price reasonable? Any local dealer recommendations or discounts that you folks are aware of?

Thanks in advance.

Different dealers will include different services at 30K. So you can't just ask for the price of the 30K service. You have to ask what is included. Hard to say if it's "reasonable" w/o knowing what they do. At 30K you should have the oil and filter changed, tires rotated, cabin and engine air filter changed, brake fluid flushed, lube drive shaft, retorque bolts, and that's it (off the top of my head). If you drive offroad or tow, I think Lexus recommends transfer case and front/rear diff oil changed out. $700 sounds about right for "Lexus" service. It depends on where you live.

For me, $700 is pretty steep for what they do. It's essentially an oil change and tire rotation. You can easily change the engine and cabin air filter yourself. The owner's manual shows you how to change the cabin air filter. They perform an inspection with ever oil change - I'm not sure if they "inspect" more stuff with a 30K service. The brake fluid flush is about 1 hour of labor plus fluid - so about $150. I think some dealers include drive shaft lube and retorque as part of an oil change - but not sure.

So oil change and tire rotation is about $80 and the brake fluid flush is $150, that comes out to $230. So they are going to do $470 worth of inspections? Thats almost 5 hours worth

What year is the GX470, I know with the 4Runner the 2003 V8 had the Toyota Type IV for the trans fluid and Toyota's regular red coolant, in 2004 the V8 got the WS Lifetime fluid which is suppose to be changed at 90k unless you tow and the Coolant switched to 5year 150k stuff, I think the GX470 has the same fluid for those years.

Simply put Toyota/Lexus trucks are as easy to work on as Fullsize GM trucks and except for the required Toyota trans and red coolant most any shops can work on them for way less then any dealer could.

Vital fluids are:

engine oil and filter
trans fluid
coolant fluid
brake fluid
power steering fluid
front and rear diff
transfer case
grease the drive shaft

greasing the hubs, I thought this was an important thing but apparently T/L just inspect the wheels for play, might have a lot to do with all the SUV being driven as cars and not the off road machine they are built as.

Toyota dealers can also perform the 30k service, my local Toy dealer serviced my 4Runner for 449, that was changing all the fluids in the vehicle.

and another thing to remember is the 90k service you will need a new Timing belt and water pump, 1000 bucks

It's a 2005 GX470. I found a coupon booklet for a Toyota Dealer in South Bay (hint hint) and it looks like they have an a la carte special starting at $149 for V8s.

They have 4x4 oils which I think translates to the differential oil at $55. I don't think I'll need Coolant or Transmission fluid at 30k. Seems like a good deal so I may give them a call tomorrow.
