Unhappy Side View Mirrors

Yesterday some moron, who must of gotten his license from DisneyLand sideswiped my driver side side view mirror (it was a hit and run). To my surprise it only left a small, not-so-noticeable nick in the mirror.

Anyway, the nick doesnt bother me, but I just realized that when I put the car in reverse, the driver side mirror doesn't go all the way down like the passenger side mirror.

I can't remember if this was always the case or due to 'mickey moron' sideswiping me.

Can anyone confirm if both side view mirrors go down all the way together or does one go down more than the other? Perhaps there is a settting i can tweak? I'd really hate to replace the mirror, i'm trembling on the cost of it.

Thanks in advance guy!

Only passenger side tilts.... if you have it enabled, and set it to a tilted position.

edit: Sorry I'm incorrect..... thinking of my car, the GX the wife drives.

Not sure about the 03, but on the 05 both side view mirrors does not go down together. It is either one side or the other, if you leave the side mirror adjustment control slider on the passenger side, ther passenger side will tilt when in reverse. The same goes for the driver side.

Default Side View Mirror

I'll have to double check again when I get home. Last I looked no matter what position I put the slider, the passenger side view mirror always goes down farther that the driver side.

Anyone with an '03 confirm?

Keep you updated.

I'd appreciate if somebody could check.

I thought I remembered both sides tilting pretty far down. Now the driver's side tilts down just the tiniest amount. The switch is in the proper position.

When I brought the GX in last time, they just told me it was "normal". Since that is their standard answer for anything that is not hanging out and dragging on the ground, I'm not sure what to think.

I have an 06 GX, although as far as I know this feature hasn't changed over the years.

My passenger mirror tilts down much more than my driver's side does. Makes sense to me since you are closer to the driver side mirror and the angle needed to see lower would be different than that of the pass side.

Also, I noticed that the mirrors tilt a set amount. So, depending on where you have them in their normal memory position, will determine how much of the ground you will see. I tilted my driver side up as much as i could. Then, I put her in reverse and the mirror tilted down to a normal driving position.

Hmmm ... had no idea this was a feature that could even be enabled! <hangs head in embarrassment> Can someone tell me how to enable this feature? I have an '04 GX.

Default Side View Mirror

Thanks for confirming CVsGX470!!

I was going nuts thinking I had a malfunctioning mirror. Especially after the incident i had.

Looking at this closely though I wish I could make my driver side mirror go down a bit more in reverese. I'm a pretty tall guy and i don't even see the ground on this mirror when in reverse.

No problem...

Try tilting your mirror down as far as you safely can when driving. Then when you go into reverse, it will tilt down even futher.

Just leave your side mirror adjustment selector slider either in left or right.

Welcome to the forum HRMom!

Now that you have found us, you will find all kinds of things your GX can do that you never knew about.

It sounds like my mirror may be "normal" after all. I also found it odd that if I tilted it all the way up, it just came down a little bit - pretty useless. I'm really glad I have the backup camera.

Strangely, I was judging more by sound then angle - I thought I remember hearing the passenger mirror motor going for a longer amount of time and sounding stronger.

Default yup

silverladu i agree - pretty useless indeed. I dont have the backup cam on my '03 GX but am considering an after market one.

i wonder if they make an aftermarket side view mirror for the gx that enables the mirror to go down further.

THe side mirror tilting down is for parking next to a curb, so you can see how close you are to the curb. I agree, its pretty useless, I dont use it.
