Default Bluetooth - Am I expecting too much

The bluetooth sound quality is pretty poor. My wife has given up using it and I can't say I blame her. The sound received and sent is equally poor quality and the dealership is saying it is operating normally. I've been into the menu system and adjusted the mic a couple times but it didn't make any difference. My Acura TL has much better sound quality. Has any one had any luck improving this or is it just me.

Default Could be your phone. My BT works very well (m)

witrh one exception: Verizon won't allow transfers of the phone book. What BS.

Mine sounds great from the Verizon Razr. Only when I have the window open when it's pretty bad. Duh. But no sound issues for me.

The only thing that I have noticed is that the volume could be louder. I had an Acura RL before trading for my GX, and it was sig. louder. I think that the system overall works great.

Default I'll try the dealer again

We have tried several Razr's, blackberry 7130, and treo 650. They all pair just fine, but the sound quality is unusable. I will try to have the dealer check the settings again.

I have had great results with mine so far with a Razr. I was impressed when my wife said she could even hear me fine with all the windows and sunroof open! I haven't had a chance to try out Acura's system, however I couldn't stand my Bluetooth in my M3.

there is a way to fix it, but I can not go into detail on how to fix it here on the forums. Fearing that people will try to do it and mess up their whole navagation systems. Take it to the dealership and have the diagnostic tech look at it, and tell him to adjust the outbound and inbound volumes. Usally I have found that it is the outbound that has the most problems. It is distorted on the other person who is calling's end.

Bluetooth works well in my GX with Treo 650 (Sprint). I have found the sound quality to be good. I transferred my phonebook using the quicklist function in the treo--no problems.

Can you tell me exactly how you transferred your phonebook into the GX? I would like to do the same for my Cingular Razr V3 if possible.

I don't know how you would do it with the Razr. Before I bought my GX, I read through numerous discussion boards about bluetooth capability, phone compatibility, phonebook transfers, etc. Almost universally owners have had trouble transferring the phone book. But, I found a discussion on the treocentral.com discussion board with the palm treo 650 and phonebook transfer in Lexus automobiles. I've copied and posted the instructions below. The instructions worked perfectly for me. I don't know if other phones have the quicklist capability or not though so I don't know if this would work for the Razr. Good luck.

FIRST OF ALL MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAVE THE LATEST FIRMWARE FOR YOUR TREO 650. IF YOU DON’T, GO TO THE PALM WEBSITE AND UPDATE YOUR TREO.

PART 1: GETTTING YOUR LEXUS TO RECOGNIZE YOUR TREO (plagiarized from Youngturk in another post)

1) Initiate pairing from the car;
2) Respond with passcode from Treo;
3) The Treo will say you are connected, the car says it is still waiting;
4) Disregard the car's message;
5) Select the Handsfree as a Trusted Device in the Treo Bluetooth (very important) 6) Initiate a call from the Treo;
7) The car’s handsfree system will pickup the call and recognize your Treo.

PART 2: DOWNLOADING YOUR PHONEBOOK TO YOUR LEXUS

The Lexus has limited phone book capabilities. It can only handle one name for your contact and one telephone number per contact.

1) Create a new category (or use an existing category that has no contacts in it). I used QUICKLIST. For each entry you need to manually enter a name in the last name field. For example I used “John Cell”, etc.

2) In the 1st telephone number field enter the phone number. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT: DO NOT NOT USE ANY PUNCTUATION. NO SPACES, ), (, etc. ARE ALLOWED. If you do this your phone book will have garbage in it. The phone number can only be enter the following two ways XXXXXXXXX or XXX-XXX-XXX, ETC.

3) After you have entered all of your contact information you are now ready to download the data into the Lexus phone book. Initiate the phone book transfer from the Lexus.

4) Press the contacts button from your treo. Select the QUICKLIST category filter at the top of Treo screen. From the Treo menu, press the SEND CATEGORY selection.

5) On the next screen select Bluetooth. Press OK

6) On the next screen select BLUETOOTH HANDS FREE

That’s it. Your phonebook is now downloaded to your Lexus.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

If you want to add additional contacts later on, follow the above steps but use the send contact choice, not the send category choice. The send category choice overwrites the Lexus phone book. Your lexus will ask you if you want to add to or replace the phonebook. Choose the add to choice. Even if you send the same phone book to the Lexus, your car will overwrite everything. This means that the car will delete your one touch settings. The send contact method avoids that problem.

I did the same thing with my treo 650 (before it got posted on treocentral!). The problem may be that your phone entries have more information than the GX BT can handle (i.e., second phone numbers, addresses). I just created a separate cagtegory and inputed only the name and one phone number for each entry. It worked!

That said, now, almost two years later, I can't remember the last time I dialed through the GX screen. I just use my treo to dial, it seems easier.
