How much Under invoice?
under invoice as it has already suffered one year's depreciation even if otherwise "new". It is fairlt easy to get an '06 for $500-$1000 over invoice, so why take an '05 at the same price?

Regarding price, I agree with JWS3, though I'm not sure they could go as much as several 1,000 off invoice, unless there's some sort of mfr to dealer incentive we don't know about.

What are your intentions for the car? What I mean is are you going to keep it forever? If the answer is no, then don't look to get an '05 just because you "think" you are getting a deal...the full year's worth of depreciation has already been factored into the car - so the car is not worth the sticker price anymore - hell it may not even be worth invoice anymore, and if you plan on re-selling it in 3-5 years that all matters.
Also - the 06 has better features and upgraded nav system with Bluetooth - why go for an '05 when for 500-1,000 more you get an '06 without the depreciation hit and with the new goodies.
Everything is not as it seems when you start hearing/seeing "below invoice" from a car dealer.

There is no reason not to negotiate the best possible price based on the best information. That is what the dealer does from their end. They know what they can get for the vehicle - they always have the option of saying no.
Speaking of being cheap, the dealer didn't offer us anywhere near the Edmund's "dealer trade in" amount for our old SUV. We had to negotiate for quite a while to get an offer anywhere near a reasonable percentage of the correct amount. So who is the cheap one?
