Got a new driveshaft about 3 months ago, didn't really solve the thump problem.
Now I have about 19k miles on the GX, I don't feel the thump anymore. Hope it's gone permanently.
Maybe the wear-off theory is true.
Just make sure that every time you get the oil/filter changed they grease all of the zert's in the driveline. If they don't and you get a thump that's what's causing it. Trust me with the idiots they have doing the service work they will forget to grease them even if you tell the service writer.

thanx for reminding me, i think the thump is slowly creaping up on me...
I hear they are looking at using "Ford Grease" in the slip yoke, guess it has some properties that will help eliminate this problem. This is per the service manager at a local dealership.

is that what they're doing to ur Gx, or just heard about it when u had ur GX serviced?
Originally posted by PitBull I just heard about it from chatting with the service manager about the complaints. My vehicle doesn't have a Thump problem.
Originally posted by Rx900 oh well! mine doesn't have it anymore! (so far)
I hear you, I understand from everything I've read and my own experience that it wears in after around 10K miles and the thump goes away. Helps if you keep it lubed.
Dear RX900,
It sure sounds like you bought the wrong kind of car. I had a chance to testdrive a new GX at the dealer. It acts the same as mine.
If you want a car like ride, maybe you should just trade it in for a RX? I love my RX330. It rides about as close to a car as you can get.
Maybe you should look at the Lexus cars.
All your gripes might be just because you expected a truck to act like a car...just because it has "Lexus" on it?
If you want some noises or clunky-ness....try buying something other than Lexus...I bet you would have more than enough to complain about!
Sorry....just tired of listening to you complain.

i wanted to upgrade, and with my great Lexus experience with my RX300, I'd thought getting one of the first GX470s won't hurt. Well i'm sticking with the thought of "Never buy the first batch, get the 2nd cycle of that generation"
I have some experience with this. Begin by following the lemon law instructions that came with your car as part of your owners manual binder. This will begin non-binding arbitration, usually through a special section of the national Better Business Bureau.
Before you begin this, become familiar with the lemon law in your State which you can probably find on the web. This knowledge gives you power during your negotiations because they know what you can ulitmately force them to do.
Here in Nevada one criterion for a repurchase is either a total of 30 days in the shop or 3 visits for the same problem during a year.
A repurchase does not allow for reimbursement of items added to the car after the purchase. In my case I had financed everything including taxes, so all was reimbursed minus a useage fee based on the mileage used.
Following this be careful how you write about it. My repurchase contract included a paragraph on confidentiality. For example, I cannot tell you what my car was nor the specific terms of the settlement.
