As per Popular Mechanics november issue, Toyota special advertising section page shows the 4runner with a bigger engine than the 2005 GX engine with 282H.P. 320lb-ft of torque, even the 6cyl have more power than my 2004 engine, 245H.P. with 283lb-ft of torque, cant believe the Land Cruiser, heavier and bigger keeps the same 235H.P. engine...

And a lot cheaper too . A bit sarcastic (off course it's a Toyota vs Lexus) and I've been following the news b/c I've been in the market for an 05 GX. Thanks for the heads up.
I hope by the time I decide to change my 04 which will be sometime in 06 that the new redesigned GX does not use any components from Toyota, I understand that the 07 model GX will be totally redisigned completely by a new Lexus engineering dept.
The V6 has more HP than a 2004 GX, but it has less torque too. Torque is what gets a vehicle moving. The heavier the vehicle, the more important torque is. HP is just a calculation based on a few things, one being RPM.
When I bought my GX470, I was fully aware that other vehicles had more power (Tahoe, Escalade, Durango, etc), but I never even considered them. The difference between those vehicles and a GX470 is obvious. When a customer is in the market for HP, Lexus is not at the top of the list. But when a customer is interested in any other ingredient, Lexus wins. To me, it is the other 99% that's most important.
The power wars are heating up though. Lexus will introduce some new cars in 2006 that are based on very high power gas engines combined with very high power electric motors to make for super powerful cars. My next car will be a hybrid GX470 or whatever equivalent comes out. I just love the GX470-sized vehicle, and Lexus' attention to detail is second to none.

Are you sure it's a BIGGER engine? I was under the impression they were still 4.7 litre but now have variable cam timing which makes them have higher horse power at certain rpms.
I honestly wouldn't worry about it either way. From what I hear you can't really tell much of a difference. I know I know... some people swear it's night and day but most of those folks just paid alot of dough for a car that has it. My 1998 RX has a different engine than the later models and I couldn't tell any difference there either. Maybe if I really used my imagination I could, but I doubt it would be real...

Good. That had me worried a bit. Usually Lexus tends to name the model after the size of the engine. 4.7 = 470 etc. If indeed they had upped the size of the engine to say a 5.0 litre, then you could expect Lexus to change the name to GX500. Now that WOULD suck for anyone who bought an 04...
