Thumbs down Steering Wheel

Just finally drove the GX yesterday and loved it! More importantly, wife loved it. One huge negative....Wood on the steering wheel. Anyone know if it may be an option to replace it with a wood-less wheel? I do not want aftermarket wraps, etc. Any suggestions? Dealer rep did not have an answer...

Lexus does list a non-wood wheel for the GX, but I dont think any of the cars come packaged without one. About $750 or so.

you can get a wood-less steering wheel, but ur gonna have to order it straight from japan. there, they've got the land cruiser prados, in which there are models of the Prado that have regular wood-less steering wheels.

I am the opposite, I love the feel of the wood steering wheel, but wish it was all wood.

The main reason is because when turning the wheel, or when the wheel is realing back from a turn, there are two different friction points and it can be annoying.

On the other hand, depending on how sweaty your hands are, it is nice to have an option on texture for steering.

Thanks for the responses...I don't care for it for two reasons...It is gawdy (sp?) and somewhat slick when it is hot and my hands are sweaty. I love the wood in the dash, trim on the doors, on the shifter, everywhere but the steering wheel. Oh well.

that's alright bro. we all have different opinions. I really like my wood steering wheel, makes it really look "expensive" becuz it's da real wood, not the wood that you can buy in the magazines or where ever.

Find someone that just bought a new 4runner and trade steering wheels. The 4runners are leather wrapped and have the same controls on them. If I still lived in Atlanta I would trade with you.
