Hi, I am new here... since just bought a 3GS and found that there is a black strip in the trunk. I would like to know the purpose for it, thank you very much.

That strip contains the wiring for the lights and backup camera in the trunk lid. Treat it gently.

 

Are you kidding? That's just the strap that auto-closes the trunk when you lightly shut it. Granted, I never really thought about it but I'm not sure where else they would enter the lid so ... are there really wires hidden in that strap too?

Yep for sure its the wiring for back-up light, when I got my LED emblems installed he had to find a way to tap in but didnt want to cause once it rips it becomes a real mess.

 

Must be one crazy ribbon cable in there, glad I told my cousin to never touch that strap when he went to grab that to TRY and close the lid!
