I was told that I my rear control arm is 30% loose. He said it's right where the toe is adjusted

So I'm wondering if anyone knows specifically which part he's referring to so I can go buy it for much cheaper.

 

Hmm, there is a rear upper control arm (in the rear of the car #48790) and there is also a rear control arm in the front of the car, I am not sure whether it is the Lower Control Arm or the Caster Arm. I am guessing he is talking about the Rear Control Arm in the front of the car because I've never heard of the Control Arm in the Rear of the car being replaced though I guess it could wear out.

 

Could he be talking about the castor arm and if so where can I get one I don't want the daizen kit

 

I went to Rock Auto and it looks like "Rear" actually refers to the Lower Control Arm #1, not the Caster Arm. I hope someone else can confirm this for you, though. This is Beck Arnley's (Aftermarket Distributor) Front Right Lower Rear Control Arm.

 

Thanks for trying to help him out guys but you might want to edit your posts with some things that you mentioned. The GS2 doesn't have a rear upper control arm in the front of the car.

Quick guide. We have a rear upper control arm, front upper control arm, front lower control arm no.1, and front lower control arm no.2 (castor), and rear trailing arms. In the rear you also have traction rods, and toe control rods. None of these things are adjustable from the factory in terms of putting an alignment back into specs if other parts are bad or loose.

If your rear toe is out of spec; you have to look into a few things; first your rear toe control rods might be shot. You can replace the oem part (48705-30070) with adjustable aftermarket toe rods of your choice. You can use the adjustable aftermarket IS300 toe control rods as well. If your rear upper control arms are shot or seized (48770-30052) then you should replace them if you can find them. I suppose IS300 rear upper control arms would work but no one here that I know of has tried them on their GS2.

I've only listed one side for the oem part numbers. Any other questions feel free to ask.



Part 2 is the upper control arm

Part 1 is the knuckle/hub

Part 8 is a plastic cover

Part 4 is the rear arm

Part 9 is the traction rod (can be replaced with an aftermarket adjustable one)

Part 12 is the toe control rod (can be replaced with an aftermarket adjustable one)

The sewell site is funky on cross browsers, their code is breaking because theyre adding a facebook component to their catalog, probably an adp thing.

So in the suspensin diagram basically i need part 4 is the lower control arm right so the driver side and passenger side lower control arms are right next to each other?


Therefore labor for one shouldn't be too much different from labor for both sides right?

Someone tell me i'm rite because i'm being quoted $500 labor one side and that sounds like alot

I hate to necro such an old post but yesterday I took my GS4 for an alignment and was given the same reason as the OP for NOT being able to align the car -- the part #4 on your diagram or REAR lower control arm for the REAR suspension as the service adviser told me, is loose and won't hold alignment. I'm assuming that is caused by worn bushings which leads to toe in and out depending on the forces exerted by the wheel torque or braking. Now keep in mind my car has most likely is an original factory part with over 245,000 miles so I think it's a worth while replacement IF that is the main culprit.

I'm looking at partsgeek website and 1 REAR SUSPENSION lower control arm is about ~$125, and Sewel's part # 48730 is $157, assuming this is the correct part in question all along.

It's also been recommended to me that I get the REAR tierods and maybe even traction bars (I'm assuming they meant the toe-in adjustment bar part #12 and traction bars part #9).
