Default Installing a Valentine V1 Gen 2 radar detector

All,

does anyone have a install video on how to hard wire this unit into the rear view mirror of a 2016 GS F? Or some helpful hints? I’d there any downsides installing it in the mirror?

Thanks
Chris

Sure would be nice if this were useful in GA, but all the LEOs here use laser. Need something much more expensive to counter laser detection.

I think the Georgia State Patrol still uses radar exclusively. At least, that had always been the case as long as I’ve driven before the pandemic. I haven’t driven enough in the past two years to know if it’s still true. My radar detector has always caught GSP and that has been its only value since you are right that like all other police in GA use laser.

Not sure it will be the same, but there are a ton of hardware threads in the 4GS forum.

This one for example is using the mirror and has some detail on wiring towards the bottom of the thread

Yellow is switched power (IGN).
Red is battery (always on B+)
White/Black is ground (almost always on anything Toyota)
Gray is EC- for autodimming
Pink is EC+ for autodimming.

I am testing with my meter and if I put my black tester into the white wire and my red tester on the yellow wire I am not getting anything registered with the car on or off? I am however getting power if I put my black tester on the white wire and and my red tester on the on the red wire??? If I hook it up to this the dector will always be on. Can anyone help?????

Yellow turns on when the ignition is on. Not ACC, but ON. Engine doesn't have to be running, but it takes a double press on the switch to get to ON. If you are not seeing battery voltage on the yellow wire with the ignition switched on, there is something else wrong.

Black is negative on your meter and ground (negative) on the car. Red is positive, and seeing battery voltage on the red wire across the white wire with the black stripe is expected.
